I grew up on a farm and shot my first gun when I was about 4 years old, an old single shot 22. Learning gun safety when you are young is a really good thing to do. We ate a lot of squirrel and rabbit growing up...
Of course me being me, I managed to get in trouble with guns, too. A buddy and mine and I shot out all the windows in a brick company building a number of years later for grins and another time I shot a squirrel that was jumping from one tree to another through the screen in my bedroom. These weren't the only things I got in trouble for, but were two incidences that I remember the most. The screen deal was the worst as my dad freaked when he heard the shot from inside the house and bent the gun barrel on my gun. I was thinking that I was king dude as I had hit the squirrel in mid flight and only made a small hole in the screen...I was probably all of 8 years old.

I was not the only one with this issues! Got the .22 taken away then got a sling shot, that created more of the same issues! That was it for a few years, then got a cross bow in middle school. Ended up getting in trouble for firing sitting on school grounds firing it into BLM property!

My dad knew better when I was young. He never let me have guns (BB guns were ok though) because he was a little ba$tard with his. He grew up in coal mining country and they had an outhouse. Many stories were told about how his guns would meet their end - thrown down the hole by my grandfather. :lmao:

Oh yeah...I plain forgot about BB and pellet guns. We used to have gun battles with these (along the line of 'it's always fun until someone loses an eye'). These both eventually got taken away from me and all of my buddies, but not before I got tagged with a pellet right between the eyes. I still have the scar....

Sure is! I missed out growing up in middle class suburban California. I only saw guns on police officers.
Roland, I found that kids tend to be decent shots...they have not learned any bad habits.

I used to go to "Camp St. Malo" and every year out of like 40 girls I would get best marksman (ironic) with a .22

Ahhh the memories! I first shot at the age of 5. Pops had his arms around me, hands around mine. We didn't get our own firearms until our sense of safety and responsibility was well established. We did have bb guns, and lost the priveledge a time or two...
