Nice to wake up on your 50th! I woke up on mine camped at the base of a big rock we were putting up new routes on and celebrated by rope soloing about 3600 of stellar climbing. It was a great B day1 Hope yours was, too!

I woke up at the base of the cliff with 900' of granite 10 feet away. I felt great, no noise, not a soul anywhere around, hawks flying about, blue sky, sunshine, I was in shape, had been climbing hard, single, folks were dead and it was like "Hell, yeah, it's my 50th b-day and I am going to have some FUN!" I wasn't all too concerned about actually making through the day in one piece, either, but I was sure going to have a good time....Not that that made me climb carelessly, just that it wasn't high on the priority list...

I quite growing a beard when I saw a climbing pictures of myself with some other climbers. I asked my buddy, " Well, I recognize Stewart, Martha, Jeb, Jeff and some of these other people, but who is the due that looks like Willy Nelson?" After he finished laughing, he told me that the Willie Nelson looking dude was me. The beard went that night and has never been back. It is completely white, too...and I am not vain enough to do the Burt Reynolds dye, patch and glue stuff....
