Hey All,

On labor day weekend, we are camping down the hill from St Elmo (near Buena Vista). My wife has been wanting to do Tincup for a while but various things have stopped us from doing it over the years from flat tires to a broken Jeep last year.

We'll be there from Thursday evening till Monday morning so there will be at least 2 days of wheeling. I'd like to hit some or all of:

Tincup - http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=120
Hancock Pass - http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=245
Palmeroy Lakes - http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=246
Mt Antero - http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=51

None of the trails is rated over a 4 so it should be a pretty easy weekend.

Questions are:

1) Whats the best way to run them? Groupings, etc...
2) Anyone interested

I'll schedule these as soon as I figure out #1.

Hancock was closed due to a rockslide when I was there last and it didn't sound like it would be open at all this year.

My Report from 6/6/10 (http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?9953-Buena-Vista-6-6-10&p=106516#post106516)

What dates are you looking at?

We'll be out there 9/3-9/5. I'm guessing the 4th and 5th would be the best days...

I'll have to check but it sounds good to me right now.

I don't know all the logistics of running these (now 2) trails. Can we run Antero and Tincup in the same day easily or should I schedule two runs?

2 days Aaron unless you enjoy racing up and down the bumpy roads. Antero is very bumpy, not hard but very bumpy - siring down is a must just for comfort. As you know it's very high and has great scenery. If you're adventurous you can climb the last 500 feet on foot to reach the top. It's said to be a good spot for finding semi-precious gems.

Tin Cup is a nicer trail as far as comfort but you can spend a day on each if you're poking around the spurs, etc. There are a lot of mines to check out along the way if that interests you.

Someone on CO 4x4 said that the locals have been told that Hancock Pass should be open in a week or 2. Don't know how reliable that is but there is hope...

I saw a picture of Hancock Road in the last COHVCO newsletter. Said a culvert plugged up and a section of the road, 50 feet long and 24 feet deep, was washed away!!!! Incredible.
