Well. The thought was that I would pay down our camper so we could get it sold but my lovely bride gave the go-ahead to get the new Jeep setting up higher on new shoes :) I really do love that woman!
I've decided on and ordered this lift... http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_jk_3-seriesII.html
Its a 3.5 inch lift with coils, shocks, control arms, sway bar brackets, bump stops, etc. Some people don't like rough country... but I do! There is something to be said chatting with someone online, calling up and that same guy answers the phone and then gives you a 10% discount. Before I bought it, he even sent me a picture of his Jeep with the lift on it...
I bought Pro Comp 8179 wheels
http://www.4wheelparts.com/aux_incl/images.ashx?i=PXA7189.jpg&partNo=PXA&w=200&h=200
They will come to my house with 35x12.5 BFG KM2s.
I hope to be installing a lift Saturday!!! Especially now that the Jeep is not needed for a Ladies Run!

Way to do it, too. Credit cards are a total racket. We have a couple and use them for air mile credits. They get paid off every month. We also do not use them if the money isn't there to pay them off at the end of the month either.
Bottom line: If you don't have the actual physical money, you shouldn't be buying S*** to begin with unless it is something like a house. Take a look at our current national financial situation...

Hear, hear. Too many people learn that lesson the hard way. And credit card companies are already finding ways to get around the Credit Card Protection Act. Shysters.

Forget the lift just put them on now! Who cares if they rub or it flexes.
Aaron
August 13th, 2010, 01:29 PM
I've heard JK Rubicons might have some trouble with 15" rims so I figured I would test fit one of the wheels. They 15"x10" with 3 5/8 backspacing so I thought I would be fine. I was right. And good lord do they look good!

Look at that picture. It's mostly perspective, but that back tire looks like it came off a roller skate :)

Looks really nice! In fact it makes me want to lift my heap and maybe stick some bigger tires under it.....
Oh...you might want to watch airing down too much as the 12.50 on a 10" rim isn't the greatest combo for airing down too much, nor does it help with preventing sidewall damage...Just ask Chris...I usually run an 8" rim with 12.50 tires for that reason, only stepping up to a 10" rim for 14.50 and up widths...

It hadn't occurred to me until Pete mentioned it but I've popped my tires off the run twice when aired down. I was lucky that both times they resealed themselves after letting out a burst of air. I may just got back to my old steel wheels to prevent this from happening in the future.

Oh I'm stoppable. In fact. I'm stopped right now. My back hurts...a lot!
Aaron

Pete. We may need to stubby that bumper. The tires get awefully close to it. I need to check it out flexed as well on the rear. I think the tires come close to the sliders as well.

:lmao: Not laughing at you, laughing with you. Welcome to the "getting too old for this kind of stuff" club.
Fortunately, stoppability is usually temporary.

I haven't had it on the open highway yet but its not that bad as far as lost power. Perhaps its the CAI?
Next are minor things... CB, Evap Cooler Skid.
This thing really is pretty complete!

Some fender trimming necessary
Aaron
August 25th, 2010, 08:28 AM
Some fender trimming started. I still need to take care of chopping up the underside of the fender... You can't tell here but I drove it up on the porch to test clearances. The bumper needs to be chopped a bit because at full flex, turning is an issue....
Aaron

Hey Pete. Great job on unstubby-ing my bumper. Who would have thought that after chopping your bumper, you could get the ends put back on. You can. And with Pete's modifications, I have the clearance to stuff the tires at full lock and not hit the bumper.
Aaron
September 27th, 2010, 09:10 AM
HArd to tell from the pictures. But Pete chopped a lot of metal off the back of the bumper and made the angle from the bottom much steeper. This made the ends of the bumper compe to much more of a point. and have a lot more clearance.
Here's a shot of what it looked like before.

I had some nasty clunking on the way home from Pierson and Johnny Park this weekend. When I hit the brakes or took a hard right turn, CLUNK could be heard and felt. After looking at some stuff on the internet that said it might be a loose CA, I decided it was time to put on the new CAs I have and get my caster back out to a reasonable setting (to get rid of the wander I was feeling). Since my son had the oomph to get the CAs off the rig, it seemed reasonable that they might have been the culprit...
Well, with the new CAs on and some more tightened bolts and the caster adjustment, the Jeep drives better than it did the first day I bought it. The clunk is gone, the wander is gone, all is well!

Good to hear Aaron though you make me wonder since you were keeping up with me on the way home!
I'll keep Andy in mind next time I need someone to provide oomph since mine's all gone... :p
