View Full Version : Jeep is at the Stealership :-\

Well. Just dropped the Jeep off at the dealership. After Pete did all his great work on the Jeep Sunday, I couldn't get the electronic sway bar to reconnect. I did get the extended warranty (which I don't usually do) on this one so it should be covered with only a c-note out of my pocket. If not, I'll use the money I get back from cancelling that service contract to buy the Currie Anti-Rock sway bar system...

Wish me luck

If you were flexing out the suspension, of course it wouldn't reconnect. It was probably a little off-balance. When that happens, driving slowly over undulating ground can help it get back to the right spot.

I did that. I even disconnected the link on the passenger side and moved it up and down slowly to try to find the sweet spot. It never reconnected.

I haven't had the heap long but I've been on quite a few trails with it and it has never had trouble reconnecting. Sometimes you have to shake it back and forth a bit from inside the vehicle but it always connected.

In other words, something ain't right.

Did they give you any info? Have they even looked at it yet?

They were still diagnosing at closing last night. They agreed that something was broke. That is as far as we are.

Just got word. $2200 that is not covered by my extended service contract. That ain't happening. I'll be using the money I get back from CANCELLING that contract to take care of this. There are a few options. I'll start another thread.

Sweet Jesus on a stick! Are they serious?!? Did they mention what was broken?

They said that the entire sway bar mechanism had to be replaced. I'm guessing that is some laziness but either way it kinda stinks. They said they got a face full of water when they took it apart which might explain it not working. However, you can hear the motor turn when you click the button so at least we know that works. I'll take it apart this weekend and see if there is anything obvious. IT, evidently, is not a terribly complex piece of equipment.

http://articles.jeepforum.com/How_to_put_a_2007_JK_electric_swaybar_in_your_YJ -- The guy in this thread changed his to manual with a little ingenuity. However, it seems a bit like a hack. I kinda don't want to hack this Jeep too much so I might go aftermarket.

I def recommend aftermarket. Factory parts are ridiculous.

This begs to ask what the extended service contract does cover!

Sorry to see this Aaron.

I would bet powertrain and transmission. Possibly diff. We deal with these all the time at Audi.

Funny thing is Stablizer Bars is included in the suspension section but they said since it is electrical and no mention of sway bars in electrical, I'm screwed.

Typical loop hole BS.

I would call and argue it. We have seen some success when people raise a big enough stink.

Damned stealerships, exactly why I stay far away from them. "I'm sorry but it appears this has been taken off road which violates terms of your warranty."

In defense of the stealership, there only offense is the ridiculous cost. The service contract folks are the ones who should be damned.

Service contracts are strictly a money maker, no real value for coverage beyond the warranty.

I know a kid who bought his first car with a service contract and when his engine failed the 1st week the service contract company denied he even had one despite having the paperwork. :frown:

Good Call! I called to ask why they wouldn't pay. They read me the description which said "the sway bar is disconnected" which I told him was wrong. I explained the problem, he called the dealership and said Fix It!

Woohoo!

That is a total load of BS man, they were trying to put it to you for sure!!! I had to have my electric sway bar replaced too. Would not lock up at all. I had it done 30 days before the warranty went out. The place I went to did the work no questions asked. They also didn't tighten the bolts, but that's water under the bridge. From what I've been told - (once you start flexing the suspension) the electric sway bars start to go south in a hurry.

Glad they are taking care of it, it's just stupid that you have to argue to get it fixed when it is covered
