Pictures and reports moved from Planned Trail Runs....Both the pictures and the weather look great. Wish we could've made it, but my tires need replacing and both LaDawn and I ended up working....Me on an F250 and LaDawn showing an open house.

Your welcome Chris, glad you could make it and everyone else too! I think the only sketchy part was the downhill on the west side with the snow and the deathdrop on the right. other than that it was a great run!

At least be moving slower....We have a huge amount of old mines, many with the buildings still standing (and body size gears kicking around), and a great many at pretty high elevations. You need to plan a trip out here with some buddies and get shown around. We have quite a few folks that like exploring the mine sites as well as quite a few who like doing harder trails. Sometimes there is a good combination of both....

Yep....what Randy said. Having been on the other end of Randy's huge truck on snow runs, if his rig gets stuck or simply starts sliding and forward progress is stopped, you had better have about 3-4 rigs tied together to get him out. If Randy looks at a snow covered hill, either up or down, and decides he doesn't want to do it, there is a really good reason for that decision. His truck ain't your basic full size, and does weight about 9,000 pounds. Be grateful he didn't do the hill in question.....

Hey Adam, thanks to you and Jasmin for bringing the Runner and educating me on them. It's nice to hear "yeah, that noise is normal" and "yes, that's the way it works" from someone else. I'm much more comfortable with my truck after this run thanks to you two.

Also thanks for confirming the lift, 2.5"? Does it have a name I could look up?

Brody
October 18th, 2010, 09:17 AM
Here is a link to a very basic RevTek 2.5" lift. Decent price for what you get. DayStar is also supposed to be making one, as well as many other companies, are also making the same set up based on the same principles.

http://www.car-stuff.com/carparts/toyota4runner20032008revtekrev43172618.html?roicid =U1172810084W45e7a9647e3bb&cssuliki06toyota4runner20032008revtekrev43172618

If you simply Google' 2.5" 2000 whatever 4Runner lift', you will bring up a lot of links to lift install articles, and lift kits. Keep in mind that the body mounts in the front will almost certainly require trimming, something that you can do(or I can, if you want) in about 40 minutes. Where the actual body mount bushing is, the round part, just measure about 3/8"-1/2" out from this and trim this off following the same radius. You should be able to do this without taking the tires off, though taking the tires off will give you more room.

Wow. SPECTACULAR. Very jealous. Thank you everyone for sharing. Wish we could have been there. No way the 5sp Forester could do that though.

Pete, Adam installed a lift on Jasmin's 4Runner and it looks like the same one I have. I've identified the front springs and asking if Adam has a name for the kit he bought. She's only rubbing on the inner fender (plastic) and not the body mount if I recall correctly. I have the X-REAS shock setup that I've read is not compatible with the springs but I can't find anything wrong myself.

Chris, here is the link to the lift kit I purchased: http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/4runner_suspension.htm It doesnt give very much information, what else did you want to know?
"It's nice to hear "yeah, that noise is normal" and "yes, that's the way it works" from someone else" HA! I really cant tell you what noises are "normal", we picked up some new "normal" noises from this weekend!
As far as rubbing goes, the front tires rub the front of the wheel well and that is all plastic,(I will be cutting that out this afternoon) the rear rubs when flexing out, but if I remove the rear mud flaps it might go away.

It appears some things have changed out there over the course of the last year. This is what that building in the back used to look like:

Cool, but looks like most of the building collapsed over the winter or is it just the angle?

Aaron
October 19th, 2010, 11:42 AM
It must be the angle. We went in the building you are showing and played with the big cable guide, break and shoots. It was kinda cool!

I wanted to go inside some of those buildings and check them out, was too chicken though, was afraid something would give with me in there. :lmao: Did you guys see all the cans laying around out there from the miners? There were some bones mixed in.

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj234/RockyMtnHigh_2008/Mosquito%20Pass%20080109/IMG_2236.jpg

The big spools of cable were pretty neat to see. Also on the way out to that spot, did you guys notice the pipes sticking up out of the ground? That's an underground shaft, I came home that day and did some reading on the London mine. I know we drove across it at some point.

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj234/RockyMtnHigh_2008/Mosquito%20Pass%20080109/IMG_2234.jpg

It's amazing, at least to me, the drive people had back then, to get that stuff up there with mules and wagons, then sit there and chisel at rock day after day.

I need to go back out there and explore some more.

Brad
October 19th, 2010, 11:58 AM
I would like to spend more time exploring the mines as well. Amazing what is still standing considering.

I am a asshat. I totally forgot to bring the 44k for everyone and the diesel care for Randy.

Already talked to Randy. Anyone else who was on this run, if you would like a 44k please let me know.
It is free to all those who ran the run that day.

I don't know about cost but yeah. This should be used by lots of sites once we get it right.
