As many of you know, i have been driving kateys FJ around as my dd, which forced her back into her 93 ford aerostar. She loves me enough to drive the biggest ugliest van known to man. So i have been feeling a little guilt about it lately. My guilt got to me enough to start thinking about new cars for her for christmas/bday(her birthday is christmas eve) and while attending school this last week my friend bought himself a new 2009 1500 quad cab. He looked over at me and said hey wanna buy my exploder? and out of sarcasm i said sure how much. He responded $500. I thought he was kidding. Come to find out he called me last night after picking up his new truck and said hey you still want that explorer for $500? So its now sitting outside after a fun day of catch up maintenance. I was able to erase the CEL and ABS light with my car scanner and they have not come back on since. Both were on for minor things that can flake out every now and then. Did 100%fluid change from front to back, and gave it the seafoam bk44 treatment.
Its running great! The Details are 2000 Ford Explorer 4.0L OHV Auto with Auto4wd/4HI/4Low. Here are some pics of her new ride!

The worst 3 things with the whole rig are 1. The driverside outside door handle is broke(still can be opened with some good hands). 2. The Column Shifter has major slack in it and is quite worn out so it dosen't always engage in park on the first try. And 3 it has 147K on it. But no oil leaks!

So is the FJ60 yours now? :)

Good score!!!

2. The Column Shifter has major slack in it and is quite worn out so it dosen't always engage in park on the first try.Check the bottom of the steering column. Look for a small lever with two (or one) loose bolts retaining it. I've been told this is a common problem with Ford's column shifter.

I will be the first to say, anything is a step up from a aerostar! :thumb:

I did see several of these in Colorado auto parts junk yard, parts should be plentiful. ;)

Mine slightly does that too its off a gear on the indicator like drive is 2nd and reverse is neutral. So I use my E-brake all the time.

Exploder Updates-
CEL- Came back on once, i cleaned the MAFS and intake one more time as well as changed the Fuel filter and it has not came back on.
Not getting warm- Old thermostat was stuck open, new one gets that heater cranking out ford warm!
Transmission Linkage-Still working on this one...Might need to adjust the cable tension in the shifter.
ABS Light- Cant find what code is throwing, so i am taking it somewhere to find out.(I have a Scanner for OBD1 and OBD2 that will also scan ABS lights)

Well today i ended up taking a good look at the transmission shift linkage, and Mike( Hypoid ) hit it right on the nose. There were 2 bolts that connect some of the linkage and both of them were on there last few threads before they would have came out completely. All it took was an 3" extension, t-30 torque bit, and about 20 min of trying to get my hand in there to tighten the 2 loose bolts. Overall this has been one of our best purchases yet for the bang on the buck!

So today katey decided to put some of her tax rebate to use, and get a new set of tires as the old ones looked really small in the wheel wells. We ended up going with the Falken Rocky Mountain ATS. It has gotten some pretty decent reviews, was in Kateys price range, and has a 50k life on them.
Heres a close up on the tread, and a before and after shot. They are 31x10.5R15's and i have a small piece of plastic that needs literally 1/4 inch of trimming so it wont rub. It only seems to rub backing out of parking spaces. I will trim them the bumper tomorrow. :thumb:

Looks good Chris! You planning on doing the TT and shackles?

Fordguy77

TT is a maybe at the moment, and the shackles are for sure to help with the rear sag!

Have you done the rear sway bar disconnect on it yet?
Makes a huge difference and took about 30 minutes.

Catch me up, is she still driving the 'Sploder?

I thought you had to get rid of it, made me think the tires outlived the car. ;)

We ended up selling her exlorer after it suffered from a transmission failure. Sold it for $1000 albeit thou haha. Not bad for my $500 investment. Before we sold it we pulled off the falkens and they have been riding on her replacement ever since.
