Pete took my stock Rubicon rock sliders and added steps for me. They look great! Exactly what I wanted, the price was reasonable and it was done in a timely, professional manner. I highly recommend him and will call on him again for future work on my Jeep.:thumb::thumb: Thanks again Pete!

Appreciate the work, Jackie, and the thanks. Credit goes to Jackie for the flat step with the diamond plate. Not my idea at all and I probably wouldn't have thought of it. When she mentioned it, I thought it was a cool idea. Turned out pretty good. Nice thing about Jackie's whole set up is that, as it is, it is perfectly suited to the trails she wants to do right now. Plenty stout, etc. If she ever wants to start doing harder trails where she is really nailing the sliders hard, it is going to be really easy and simple to retrofit some stout frame braces to this setup without even removing anything from the Jeep.
Thanks to Scotty at Addicted Off Road, too, for his timely help with some bending. My bender was having some issues and Scotty came through! You are the man! Still love those Yota bumpers of yours! Every time I see one, I find myself trying to figure out how to graft one onto my heap without major surgery...High drool factor there. Anyone has a Yota and hasn't checked out Addicted Off Road's Yota bumpers, you need to....

hey Pete, just a quick Q---- are you going to need to put a tube right in the diamond plate area? or was the diamond plate thick enough to kinda make it "stronger"? (knowing that the tube was cut and is no longer as strong as it could be----- kinda). the question is for when she starts the harder trails. i most likely wont do this to my already on there sliders. just wondering..
again---- great work.

That looks super sweet. Not knowing anything, does that make the bars weaker?
Another option/question - Can you "bend" diamond plate around a round tube and weld it on? I have the same-ish sliders on my XJ and would like to add some traction.

I seriously doubt it. You are cutting the tubing almost in half , then welding a plate across the cut section. There is less tube to bend both vertically and horizontally and it would be nearly impossible to bend it laterally where the diamond plate is. The diamond plate is fully welded all the way around essentially making it one with the tube.

You can, but the better way to go is :
Cheap: use the 2" wide 3M stair tread 'no slip' tape (Depos or Lowe's), just clean the surface with alcohol really well and do the tape install on a warmish day. This stuff lasts for about 2 years.
Not so cheap: Weld some expanded metal where you want the traction. Only thing wrong with that is that expanded metal acts as a really good 'rust catcher'
Really not so cheap: Bend some diamond plate around and weld it. This wouldn't be too bad if you can find some thin plate, though....
