My son's 19th birthday was last Monday. Our tradition is that the birthday kid gets to go to dinner at his or her choice of restaurant. Hunter picked Chinese. Word for word, here is what was on our chopsticks wrapper:
"Welcome to Chinese Restaurant. please try your Nice Chinese Food With Chopsticks the traditional and typical of Chinese glonous history and cultual."
I found this exact phrase on Urban Dictionary:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=glonous
You would think with the attention the errors have garnered, someone would have corrected the text.

I saw plenty of things like this working on computers. Since all that stuff is made over in China and Taiwan you get some interesting phrases.
On a power supply I saw this sticker once: "Please watch up your voltage system."
I have no idea what it even means but anyway.

You younger folks need to get used to the butchered English (or learn Catonese or Mandarin) as the Chinese are going to own the world (including the USA) before too long....and probably without a shot being fired since it will be more of an economic war than a traditional one...Us older people ain't gonna be around to see it...

:lmao: Pete, they already own 98% of American debt and oversee a major portion of the buildings here. To think the plan of "we will buy your debt and own your buildings and soon we will own your country, no need to have a war to do it" that is a sneaky plan and is working so far look they got us to give them our best steel and now they are manufacturing a sh*t load of the products we use while they pay their people less than acceptable wages, God love them they made it work!

our favorite local chinese resturant has a menu thats so screwed up we usually order something that has a picture next to it. its got horrible spelling errors, alot of the words have the capitalization in the wrong place (fRied rice), and the sentences are put together really "ungood".
but ill tell you what, they have some dang good food. and HUGE portions.

Ok, to address the depressing part of the post, I buy American when I can. I look for the label that says Made in China and if there is an alternate product for a dollar more that was Made in the USA, I buy it. I can't undo what is done, but I can try not to perpetuate it on the rare occasions when I have a choice.
Still, the translations are amusing and thanks for the link Chris. Our GPS has voice options with different languages and accents. My son says that the chinese one would tell us to turn around, factory that way!

Sorry Steph for that info!
Anytime we go somewhere and the people have a foreign accent it is funny to watch Val try and understand what they are saying, she usually gives me this look and asks me do you know what they are saying? I am pretty good at figuring it out. But I could not take more than a few moments of the video although funny it drove me crazy.

LaDawn and I have some friends from Beijing and the wage stuff is slowly getting changed.
You have to think twice about any country that sells their land to any foreign country...and the reasoning that goes behind that decision. Most of the oriental countries tend to think very far ahead. Amercans, in general, tend to think about as far as the end of their noses. Now, years later, this kind of thinking has put us into the position we are in now and, coupled with the fact that we consume (and still consume) over 80% of the world's resources, well, do the math...it don't look too good.
If we had politicians in office who didn't have their own self interest at heart and didn't need directions on toilet paper in order to use it, we may have ended up a little better off. Too bad that scenario doesn't look like it is going to change any time soon, and probably won't change at all until it is way too late to do anything at all....again something that is a typical western style way of thinking.

Hell, Chris is probably the only one here who isn't. He can't hear any accent, much less what is being said....
HAHA....And I have room to talk...

:lmao: I've come to the conclusion that hearing is over-rated! In a hour or so I'm returning my trial run of hearing aids after finding most of what I can't hear I don't want to hear anyway!

I can't hear AND I can't understand heavy accents spoken by characters in movies, and I am not even one of the members here with old parts! I need subtitles! One exception though, I know Loud Italian Accent.

Nice to know that I am not the only one who has problems with this, with or without the hearing aids. We always go for the SDH (Seriously Damaged Hearing:lmao:) subtitles.......

Baaaaaah, they better get moving - that Mayan calendar is running out... :lmao:

Although I do put more faith in the Mayan Calendar stuff than the Y2K 'end of the world', 'the rapture is coming', crap that happened in 2000, I don't put too much faith in that either.
What I would like to see is a good old fashioned alien invasion, simply to get people's eyes and brains opened up a bit...Though, as one good sci fi writer so aptly put things "we have been ignored by intelligent alien races due to the fact that INTELLIGENT aliens have come to the conclusion that the human race is simply too stupid to realize it is stupid, so why bother making contact?"

It’s an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth man had always assumed that he was the most intelligent species occupying the planet instead of the third most intelligent. The second most intelligent creatures were of course, dolphins who curiously enough had long known of the impending destruction of the planet Earth. They’d made many attempts to alert mankind to the danger, but most of their communications were misinterpreted as amusing attempts to punch footballs or whistle for tidbits. So, they eventually decided they would leave Earth by their own means. The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double backward somersault through a hoop while whistling the Star Spangled Banner, but in fact the message was this, “So long and thanks for all the fish.”
