So I'm driving down the street about 35mph and "BLAM", tire goes flat. These are Duratrac's with less than 4k miles. You think this is a defect our a big cut. Nothing found in tire our on road that could create a cut that big.

good question! its such a clean "cut". it does seem to follow a straight line. though i guess none of what i said is evidence to one or the other.

For anything to cut through the steel belts in the tread area, it would have to be pretty stout! I would guess that the tire is defective, and try to get it warranty replaced.

Did you get road hazard protection? If not, get it and go back in a week with the dead tire. Should be a 100% replacement since it's so new.
Looks like a big cut; once pulled a 7/16" wrench from a tire.

Most tires (close to all of them are under warranty until certain mileage. I would take them back and exchange them.

Ditto on the road hazard. I have seen just about everything in tires. Best was a screwdriver handle side in.

Looks like you may have hit a piece of steel or metal on the road, but that is a guess. A broken piece of sewer line or cast would do a nice cut like that.

Do what has been suggested....
