I think im sticking to leafs up front. It Iis allready set up for a Toyota solid axle with a 29 inch center to center. Needed 32.5 with my dana 60. Imm have to make or modify the TG front spring hanger. The big question is ! And I hope someone has some good input for me.....
What front springs should I go with? Right now I have the full stock rear springs with full stock yj mixed.
I dont think that could handle the 5.3, sm465, np205 combo And eeventually tube exo.
Is there another Heavier spring set should look in to ?
Maybe some 3/4 ton fronts at least?

I didnt have to grind much, I actully used a die grinder with a sanding disk on it les then a 1/8 was taken off in the middle of the caliper and some minor spots though out the out side of the caliper.
Yupp. Had to do that to clear my 15x10s too. No interference on 15x8s pre-grind.
PS - sorry its a year later. just read the thread. gonna be a sweet ride, just keep pushing forward. :2thumbup:

A buddy had aftermarket FJ80 spring that I used and that work out really good. it moved the front axle forward a couple of inches. I will have to get those measurement for you. the Alcan I have now on the buggy are starting to sag. I will need to do something different with those here pretty soon.

The the main problem that I see is weight. Do you think FJ80 springs could hold up ?

Just remember, Heaver spring dont flex as well.
Longer, softer spring with the right hangers will flex better..

The yota springs mixed with yj pack measures out to 48 inches(unloaded)
I have a extra set of 2010 Extra cab Tacoma (main/top) springs measuring 53 inches (unloaded)
What do you think about me choping the ends of the 48 inch and adding then to 53?
So in all it would be a hybrid pack of 2010 Tacoma main springs 94 pick up rear spring mixed with yj and no over load.
Seems like it would still flex well its longer but not to long same width so I cannuse my existing new poly bushings and might bring my shackles a little more forward like I think I need.
Opinions any one ??

that sounds like it should work. you can always add/take away leafs to get the desired height once its all together

Figured a way to move my peaches out for the width of the 60 and forward for new longer springs. It Including a place for winch plate and a hitch receiver. And its pretty much free!
I Need to clean all the metal off do some do some drilling, alot of welding. Finish my springs up and im sure its nailed.
Perches will be temporarily adjustable so I can find optimal permanent home.

Sounds like it's probably a 3/4 elliptical or buggy leaf setup. It's not really anything new. https://www.google.com/search?q=3/4+elliptical+suspension&client=ms-android-verizon&source=univ&tbm=isch&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=HGsgVOjSH8KpyAS55IKQBw&ved=0CDgQ7Ak&biw=360&bih=592

when its put that way I know what your talking about. I have seen those set up and even bounded the idea around but came to the conclusion its not really Road/high way worthy. SAM was the 3/4 elliptical what your talking about ?

I know its old school, But it still flexes big time !

not for flex but more for style I plan on using a 3/4 elliptical and cantilevered shocks on my 57 willys pick up Rat rod ! Sam take a picture next time anyways always fun to see something local

Looks like I FINALLY figured out what im doing with my rig !
I combined the PU 48 inch stock yj springs with the main 53 inch Tacoma spring and looks like it will do the job.
By doing that I had to move my front hanger forward about 5 inches.
I had to extend and expand the front frame and used 3x3 about .135 wall tubing.
Looks like its going to be a strong edition to it.
Ill try and post picks up soon .

I wish I could tell ya ! My wheel base will be at 126 inches (around 5 inches more then stock).
The rear was moved back around 3 inches so im assuming front went forward about 2.
Even with that info it really dont matter till I have to motor and drive line in to adjust the front springs for shakle angle. Im thinking ill have to move forward.

Dear diary, today I matted the Ls, sm465, np205 together for the first time. Then I mocked the motor to get ideas to build motot and tanny mounts...then I took my center dash apart to fit the shifter.
But the shifter was sloppy so I welded the broken weld on the shifter and the shifter paddle too.
It works great ! Now I dont have to remove anymore dash parts.
Now im sitting in my rig at 10:30 pm imagining all the thing on going to run over.....
Hahaha ill get pics up soon of everything iv been saying ill get pics up and the most recent one too.

Truck looks awesome, Adam. I was hoping all those parts you were selling wasn't off this. It looks like the frame brackets are slotted on top. Do you think there'll be any chance of the mount pulling up knowing what kind of torque will be applied?
94ToyBear
May 3rd, 2015, 09:41 AM
Yes there will be a chance, the design is based off of Mopars old spool type motor mounts I will fab up some kind of stop towards the top of the mount to keep from pulling out. good eye by the way

Any one think one Polly bushing will be one for the transmission mount? I'm sure it will be strong enough,it the twist I'm concerned about. It needs to have some give right? Should I find a rubber bushing in stead of a polly?
5.3 is, sm465,np205 combo with one tons.

well that is dependant on how you like the feel to be.
many rigs are goimg soilid mount for engine and transmission.
I had opption in my sami buggy....should have solid mounted the t-case....
the amont of twist that 6.5:1 gear set made was crazy. bent the hell out 3/16 plate.

For the spring eye bushing the yj ones are pushed into the springs so they are not in tube or anythi g when you get them. Thus the ease of welding to the tube.
Mount looks good. Keep up the good work.

With the motor and trans all in place time to go back to the SAS. I need help with this one.....with the full Width D60 it pushed my springs out further than what the yota springs would have been. It's about 2 inches wider on each side. The front I took care of (i hope) with the extention but now the shackels is what I'm having problems with. Take a peek at the pics....what would you do?
Dang pics won't rotate for me. Sorry

June 24th, 2015, 07:11 AM
the way i see it there are 3 options. the best in my opinion would be to move the shackle mount outboard of the frame/under the fram so that its where it needs to be. this will raise the front end up a little and give you a little less ground clearance in the shackle area. option 2 would be to make some shackles that are bent offset so that the spirng can be in line. looks like you would only have to bend one side of the shackle. option 3 would be to make a spacer for the shackle to hold the bushing in the spring on the one side.
94ToyBear
June 24th, 2015, 02:31 PM
that the same options I cam up with but of course they all have their pros and cons. Option 1 I considered but due that I messed up the first go around and made a hole in the frame where I didn't need to then had to make another one a few inches back from the mess up I am not sure if I cut my self out of (literally) option one as far as frame strength goes. ill post of side pic here soon so you can see what im talking about another thing is I don't think I want to go any higher up right now although it might just help with body clearance..............Option 2 I like the shackle idea, would it cause any binding up if one is straight and one is bent ? Option 3 that's easy and but ill have to get longer bolts and im not sure if that will cause any steering issues ? what your opinions ?:bowdown::help::bang::confused:

dieseldoc
June 24th, 2015, 08:53 PM
X2 on the 2nd option.
It is the best option and I think someone builds a set already.
as for ylour frame issue, it can be repaired with plate judt be sure to plg weld them in a few places.
94ToyBear
June 26th, 2015, 01:28 AM
Things are looking better, I moved the front spring mounts out 1/4 inch on each side. It was not as square as it should have been. Going back together I can see how offset shackles will do the job. I may have to do a combo of spacers to keep the shcakels from hitting the frame and off setting them as well. I used washers and poly bushing for a temporary spacer. Been a long time that I tried to pull an all nighter.....I only lasted till 11 pm :lmao:
Thanks guys for your input on this part I was really scratching my head in it.

It's been 4 years that I was able to flex anything on my Yota.
