View Full Version : Anniversary Run - 03/19/11

March 19th, 2011, 06:41 PM
Somebody needs to start this so I guess that somebody will be me. Not quite as much fun as last year due to not having any snow, ice, water on the trail. The beginning of the trail that took hours for all of us to get up last year was a cake walk, the mud pit area was virtually dry but I think everyone had fun nonetheless. I counted 30 trucks but didn't try a head count but as always it was nice to see old faces and new and that nobody had any issues that I'm aware of at least.

Pics? You want pics?

Yes, that should be a prerequisite for anyone posting a trip report, should be a rule actually, violators should be taken out back and beaten with a rubber hose! :lmao:

He asks if we want pics, OF COURSE WE WANT PICS!!!!

Perfect day, Classic Colorado,Great times today, I think we all got a little sun/ wind burned. This group ran the trail/obstacles a little earlier before the main group of rigs showed up.

There was one issue - I think it was Greg? He had the Ford pickup and apparently got a bit of bad gas into his carb, we replaced the fuel filter, finally got good gas coming through, carb cleaned out with some sea foam finally did the trick and it got running again. Other than that not a bad time.

Sorry I missed the run, I did drive up this morning to see if I could catch anybody left. Don't suppose anybody saw the people that were camped at the spot marked by the red star in this picture

I came around the corner, nobody around but a really nice campfire blazing away. With the wind and how dry it was, could have closed that place down for the summer. Got out the shovel and covered it with dirt. I really look forward to hooking up with you all this summer, just couldn't get my sh#t together to get out there Saturday, I did have fun following the new tire tracks around today though.

thats where we camped the second night. That is very weird because we poured my 5 gallon container of water and covered it with dirt. we also hung out for a little bit to make sure it was out. sorry everyone, I guess the wind picked up and uncovered some coals at the bottom. and thank you for putting that out

Guys I am sorry if seems like I am beating a dead horse, I also don't want to be a kill joy in the report thread, but this could have been a major F'up of mass proportions. The wind was pretty bad today. Let alone the damage these fires have caused recently to property and homes with it being dry, the recovery time for the forest after such an event, but this could have also caused serious repercussions for the entire group, we know how quickly word gets around on these boards about people not minding the Stay The Trail guidelines, can you imagine the fallout over setting a thousand acres on fire?

We need to be careful out there and make absolutely sure this does not happen again! :thumb:

Thank you Gary for Putting out the camp fire. I am completely sure that it was unintentional, but careless mistakes like this could seriously wreak havoc! let it be a lesson to us all... when in doubt, WATER and more dirt, then some more water.

Jackie- Greg's truck did not make it home that night due the the carb was flooding out and was spraying fuel every where so we parked it at a near by gas station and went home and i drove him up the next morning with his spare carb and he put it in and it ran like a raped ape all the way home and ran soooooooooo much better.

Propane? :D

It has crossed my mind, but I like to keep it street-able, and I dont feel propane is a good move there. I think I would be more inclined to trailer it with propane. the make carbs that handle the extreme angles better, just need to figure out what I need and where to get it. and have money of course.

Just a thought Aaron- would we (FR4x4) want to remove all the comments about the fire in this thread? My thought is just based on the fact that there is now another site (4x4trailtalk.com) linking back to this write-up about the trail. The fire stuff, while important, has already been discussed in another thread and may not lend itself to the FR4x4 image to people who may follow the link and draw their own assumptions.

Just a thought. Feel free to delete this post was well either way.

Thanks,

I talked to Aaron the day it was mentioned here and that was our thought too, better to leave it out in the open, discussed and dealt with, rather than give the appearance of it being swept under the rug!
