Here are the rigs Chrysler brought to EJS this year. I'm a fan of the Diesel Cherokee...

I've seen the Renegade concept before. I like the others as well. Now if we can only get them all into production. Gas prices be damned! Gas will go back down, but the American hunger for power won't.

I wish they offered a cool Liberty. Is that an oxymoron? :D
I took my wife Liberty shopping and we went Xterra. If they offered something like that, we mighta gone that way.

There's a Grand Cherokee in this lineup too. I saw a video walkthrough of each of these vehicles on one of the Jeep-specific forums. Anyone find that?

Yeah. I think they call it a cherokee oversees still. And since it has a diesel, it must me a euro spec...

Mmmm....diesel.

What ever happened to being able to get a Liberty with a CRD?

If I could afford it, I would swap my 4.0L with a diesel. Then look at running an SVO conversion to help with gas prices. I would lose some power, but the fuel efficiency would go up and it would still have a pretty good amount of torque.

Is it just me, or does it look like the Blue Crush might have portal axles? I can't quite tell.

i think you may be right...

Nope. Here is a front view. Looks like it uses the tried and true Dana Pro Rock 60s which are the same as on Dave's Pritchett's Jeep (I have that in my garage at the moment). Portal axles would have put the center line of the wheels about even with the bottom of the differential on both the front and rear.

2011 Jeep Wrangler Blue Crush by MOPAR

We have some information for Jeep Wrangler Blue Crush is powered by a Mopar 426 cubic-inch HEMI with 540 horsepower. The all-aluminum V-8 is paired with a 545RFE performance transmission and a gear-drive transfercase.

The 2011 Jeep Wrangler Blue Crush will make its public debut on April 16th at the 2011 Easter Jeep Safari and the Blue Crush also sports a baja-style full cage, short aluminum bumpers, a special off-road suspension system with internal bypass shocks, a front stabilizer bar, full hydro-steering, and in case you haven’t noticed yet, a set of 39” tires that are as imposing as they are useful in allowing the off-road vehicle to navigate rocky and uneven terrains.

I guess that I just looked at it wrong. Last year they had a Jeep with portals at EJS.

Bottom line, it would be hard to argue about the 540hp engine, Dana 60s etc....I mean you could probably whine about the amount of gas it uses, BUT...

LaDawn would kill me about the 3rd time I had to go down to Englewood Drive Shaft and replace the twisted up one that I destroyed by "Hey...check out what 540 hp will do with a set of 39s".

I replaced at least two in an 80 Yota pickup that I stuck a rather hot injected 302 from a Mustang in. Yeah, it would smoke the big meats on pavement, just before it would corkscrew the driveshaft. The first time I did this, I trashed both front and rear shafts as I was showing off for a friend right in front of my house. " Hey man! Check this OUT. I can smoke all four tires (35x12.50s and locked F/R)!" When he stopped laughing enough, he helped me push the rig back into my driveway ....Something wrong with my right foot thingie....

am i reading correctly???? is chrysler toying with the idea of publicly selling a line of vehicles like the blue crush?

No, these are vehicles from the "Mopar Underground" that they build specifically to show (and wheel!) at the Easter Jeep Safari. Here's the lineup from last year,

Looks like Charlie already answered this. I am glad that they aren't. All we need are a bunch of buffoons with $70k and no skills on the trails, much like Poison Spider was doing with their custom rigs...Be kinda like all the clowns in construction who have an air compressor, the newest and greatest air hammers, the best electric saws, and no idea of how to use a regular hammer or regular saw. Same concept, same clown mentality, same lack of knowledge, same lack of skill.....

lets put the concept of a of a "bunch of buffoons with $70K and no skills on the trails" on the back burner for a quick second. the fact you can build a rig like this for less than $25K USING ALL NEW TOP OF THE LINE PARTS should be a deterent for anyone to even contemplate buying the "blue crush". it does look cool though.

now back to Brody's comment. i had a temp job working for a guy who was a general contractor. he loved getting underbid by a teenager with a trailer and a tape measure. cause he knew the customer would call back to have him fix what they screwed up. which usually involved an inflated price tag. due to more work than was originally accounted for.
