A couple pics to show some of Pete's work when he uses wood. He's just about done re-doing my patio. He replaced my rotting landscape timbers and built a new fence on top of the wall instead of right up to the cement as it was before. Now we have our garden inside the patio so we can see it instead of the neighbors. It really opened it up a lot. Notice the redwood benches on two sides providing storage and lots of seating. I spent today replanting and such and am really happy with our new space.
It probably doesn't need stating but Pete is as thorough and meticulous with wood as he is steel. :thumb:
Lousy pics but I'm tired, too tired to take exterior pics.

Thanks for the compliments!
Gotta wait for a little break in the monsoon junk in order to let the redwood dry enough to get a good coat of sealer on it. Stuff is about 90% done at this point..
Looks like I missed the boat yesterday and am still around today, so it will probably get done. Ought to be in decent shape for when the world ends in October, so enjoy it while you can....:D
I also have a sneaky suspicion that almost all of the people I know are still kicking around, but I am not going to check.....:lmao::lmao:
Leonard Cohen sums it up rather nicely in "Waiting For the Miracle" from the Natural Born Killers soundtrack....

Or "The Future"

OR, for that matter, Billy Joel's "Only The Good die Young" ....always been a bit fond of the "I rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints" line...:
Only The Good Die Young Lyrics
Artist(Band):Billy Joel
Come out Virginia, don't let me wait
You Catholic girls start much too late
aw But sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one
well, They showed you a statue, told you to pray
They built you a temple and locked you away
Aw, but they never told you the price that you pay
For things that you might have done.....
Only the good die young
thats what i said
only the good die young x2
You might have heard I run with a dangerous crowd
We ain't too pretty we ain't too proud
We might be laughing a bit too loud
aw But that never hurt no one
So come on Virginia show me a sign
Send up a signal and I'll throw you the line
The stained-glass curtain you're hiding behind
(you know)
Never lets in the sun
darlin only the good die young
woah
i tell ya
only the good die young x2
You got a nice white dress and a party on your confirmation
You got a brand new soul
mmmm, And a cross of gold
But Virginia they didn't give you quite enough information
You didn't count on me
When you were counting on your rosary
(oh woah woah)
They say there's a heaven for those who will wait
Some say it's better but I say it ain't
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints
the sinners are much more fun...
you know that only the good die young
thats what i said
i tell ya
only the good die young, X2
well your mother told you all that I could give you was a reputation
Aww She never cared for me
But did she ever say a prayer for me? oh woah woah
Come out come out come out virgina dont let me wait,
You Catholic girls start much too late
Sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one,
You know that only the good die young
I'm telling you baby
You know that only the good die young
Only the good die young
Only the gooooooooooooooood
Only the good die young
Only the gooooooooooooooood
Only the good die young
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooo oooooooooo...

And here are some pictures of the latest "wood project". I was contacted by a customer to do about 300-400 sf of custom built in book shelves. The person who started the job simply vanished and I was dealing with 5 partially finished boxes and some framing that was somewhat questionable, especially as to how the remaining cabinets were going to get built and installed. In addition to this, the original contractor had more or less forgotten to account for the fact that these shelves were going to be holding a great deal of weight. They were all roughly 6 feet high and, except for the entertainment center, 12" deep. He had screw the existing boxes to 2x4 upright with 3 screws per side with absolutely no support underneath them, nor any wall support. Nice....
At any rate, I contacted my wood working buddy with whom I had done a bunch of high dollar projects, we went out to the job site, met with the customer and started work the next day. It was too bad that we were doing oak to match the existing boxes as an upgrade to either maple of cherry would have been only a few bucks more, but we were matching what was there....So, $1500 worth of oak later, we get started. Pictures take everyone up though Saturday. Monday I am meeting the painter there who is going to match the stain and lacquer them and will do the final sanding, electrical and any touch up, plus locate the shelving.

I completely tore out all of the other guy's framing on the far wall, the one showing a lot of painted surface, in order to match the window boxes and make the other two cabinets the same size. Yes, there were about 41 shelves up to 47" wide. Bren sanded all of these in the shop while I was dealing with the framing and mounting of the cabinets on the job site...
At any rate, it was a nice change from doing metal stuff. Nice to be able to work well in a couple of different mediums. Sawdust washes off easily, too....:D
