Name: Johnny Park Road, then T33A Plane Crash trail

Date: Saturday, June 25, 2011

Meeting time: 9 a.m.

Meeting place: Diamond Shamrock in Lyons, 4206 Ute Highway (Highway 66); just west of the U.S. 36 intersection. From the south, you can come through Boulder and up 36 to 66, then take a left. Or you can come up I-25 and take the second Longmont exit (Highway 66) and go east.

Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=912&bih=479&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=diamond+shamrock+lyons&fb=1&gl=us&hq=diamond+shamrock+lyons&hnear=0x876bf908d5cc3349:0xc17da1eef3a32735,Longmo nt,+CO&cid=0,0,11431064331376644765&ei=-dn6TZXsFoH4swPu5NXdBQ&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&resnum=4&ved=0CDMQnwIwAw

CB channel: 4

The Plan: Run JPR north to south (U.S. 36 to Colo. 7), then head to T-33, coming at it through Camp Dick and the south end of Bunce School Road.

Other info: JPR is a fun trail that has some challenge, but stock rigs can run it through the easier lines. The southern half (on the way out) is likely to be mild, as it was bulldozed last year, and the mud pit is probably gone.
T-33A is a little more challenging for stockers, especially one tippy spot and another section where you have to weave over a rocky section between larger rocks and a tree that likes to eat tail lights if you're not careful. (Good place for a spotter.) The trail does get narrower toward the end, with some weaving between tightly spaced trees. The plane wreckage starts about 300 yards from the end of the trail. Not a bad hike, but it's mostly uphill coming back.

Me and a buddy of mine with a Taco are camping on JPR on Friday night. Just so you guys know not to wait for me at the meeting spot in Lyons. We will meet you guys at the trail head, what time do you think you guys will be at the trail head???

Also, anyone that wants is welcome to camp with us. I also might be interested in camping saturday night and running Miller Rock on Sunday...

Probably best to meet us at the backdoor entrance (FS 118.1 on the MVUM), rather than the main trailhead (118). It's a bit more than a mile before the main trailhead back on County Road 47.

To see what I'm talking about, go to http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!ut/p/c5/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gjAwhwtDDw9_AI8zPwhQ oY6IeDdGCqCPOBqwDLG-AAjgb6fh75uan6BdnZaY6OiooA1tkqlQ!!/dl3/d3/L2dJQSEvUUt3QS9ZQnZ3LzZfMjAwMDAwMDBBODBPSEhWTjJNMD AwMDAwMDA!/?navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&cid=fsm91_058275&navid=360000000000000&pnavid=null&ss=110210&position=Not%20Yet%20Determined.Html&ttype=detail&pname=Arapaho and download or open the Canyon Lakes "South Half" MVUM. JPR is at the bottom (once you turn the map once counterclockwise).

We'll probably be at the 118.1 trailhead between 10:30 and 10:45.

Sad story and a ****** up dude, but anyone who has ever shot at anything 'downhill' has to acknowledge that the guy was a good shot.

Gas station probably has 6-7 parking spots on the side, then there's like 4 double sided gas pumps. And I think maybe a few spots on the east side of the station

You can also use the far side of the hardware store parking lot next door. ;)

And there is also a public park as you go father into town on the one going back east. Make a U turn at the light and you will pass the park. Lots of parking there. Another suggestion for parking is to just head up into South St Vrain canyon and almost as soon as you get into the canyon there is a large trail head parking on the right side that you have to drive by.

Since many groups meet at this gas station, a couple of alternative parking areas area good thing to discuss, especially since the hardware store doesn't like non customers taking upp the parking spots. Best suggestion is the trail head parking partway up the canyon. It also have a lot of turn out area right off the road, so that you can stack rigs up.

Have fun. I have sliders and seats to install on Bruce's FJ60 today...

the joys of small business ownership... I'm screwed for this morning, if we can wrap up soon enough we'll head straight to the t33a trailhead and try to meet up with you guys there around 11:00 ish, I'm guessing that's when you'll get there at the earliest. today is awesome so far...

HAHA...ain't that the truth. Both LaDawn and I are self employed, so we are completely at the mercy of work/clients. Everything else takes a back seat...

Bummer. We likely won't get to Camp Dick that early. Probably closer to between noon and 1.
