That is awesome! What is the rule? I wish the batter would have got a hit.

I don't know if there is a rule, but if you're going to make the hitter pick a side then they should make the pitcher do the same. Me too, wish he had gotten at least a piece of one!

Agreed. But who would have to pick first? I think it would have to be the pitcher.

To make it fair, probably would have to be done pre-game in a manner so that neither team knows what the opposing teams hitter/pitcher will be doing.

Probably. Very interesting and entertaining to think about. Thanks for the post. :)

That's a fact. I have always been able to switch hit, and tried to teach myself to throw a ball with my left arm when the right was in a cast...HAHA...I got to the point where I could throw a frisbee, although not well, and tried watching myself in a mirror to get the arm action down...Joke city. I was able to continue rock climbing with the right in a cast, and that was a hell of a lot easier to do...

So the rule says that once the pitcher steps on the rubber, the batter must stay put. There is no specific rules for switch pitchers so the rule sides with the pitcher, he can step on the rubber and then decide witch arm to throw with.

Try the Venditte Rule: "Minor league umps now have the Venditte Rule: At the start of an at-bat, the pitcher must declare his throwing arm, then the hitter can pick his side, with each man able to switch once. Phew."
Good story about the guy from Rick Reilly on ESPN.com: http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=4145564

Good to know Rob, that was a good read. It is an amazing thing to switch hit, but to switch pitch and to do it the way he does it, WOW!

Yeah, it's amazing what you can do when you start young enough. Guy had a smart dad.
