I have noticed a lot of people on here talking about their pets and thought I would start a thread to show them off and tell us a little something about them. Here are my 2 boys. Chief the Rottweiler has been with us since he was a little fluff ball. He is a little bit of a spaz, but I blame that on his seizures. Mitchell is our big loveable lug. He was at 226 lbs but we put him on a diet because he is getting old and was having trouble getting up and navigating stairs.

Nice thread! Thanks for starting it! Love the pictures!

We both miss having animals and we will have to wait until we move back to our Englewood house before we can have a dog (or two) again. As it stands, we enjoy every minute of babysitting Ash and Karla's dogs when they go on vacation....

We have Cooper, a Min Pin we adopted from the Humane Society, and Sierra, a Boxer from the same place (shown here with evidence of her propensity for cat sh*t, as that is the top to the litter box at that time, and, well...there's stuff on her nose), and Momo, a Katrina rescue kitty (Valentine's '06 gift from Chris, the allergic), and a sample Leopard Gecko, of which we have six. Not pictured is Stella, the small black Ninja cat (also a gift from the allergic one). Oh, and Skyler's ratties. He has two; Samantha and Lucy. Lucy's nekkid.

I moved to Upstate New York about 5 years ago and wasn't sure if I would be able to find a place there where I could keep him, so he went to live with my Mom. I did find a place that I could have him, but by the time I had enough time to go home and get him my mom was already too attached and I felt too bad to take him back. I still babysit him sometimes, but I miss having a dog around for sure. People keep posting "my dog needs a new home" threads on CO4x4 and I get tempted to do it, but haven't given in yet.

I got Haku at Lifeline Puppy Rescue in Brighton, and would highly highly recommend it to anyone looking for a puppy. They go to shelters that can't afford to vacinate and take care of puppies in a bunch of different states and bring them to Brighton every week. Haku came from the Taos Pueblo Indian Reservation shelter. They do a great job, and its a much nicer way to get a puppy then spending insane amounts of money with a breeder or getting it from a questionable source at a Pet Store.

And this picture isn't the best but it shows just how nuts he is about the snow. There may be only one small patch on snow in an entire field but that's where he'll be.

Vet says the same thing. Calls her a "northern" dog. Built like a race horse. Definitely a looker! I take her for a 2 mile HIKE (not a walk) EVERY day down into Mill Creek Cyn. Not a mean bone in her body, but shy of people. Loves to play with other dogs. Summer is not her favorite time of year. Last winter she preferred to stay outside when it was single digit temps.

Sam and Max.
Sam (red one) is a Hungarian Vizsla/Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix. He was found on the roof of a house in New Orleans just after Hurricane Katrina. Needless to say, he is not a big fan of swimming.
Max is a Black Lab/Border Collie mix. We found him as a stray in San Antonio. He had no fur because he had chewed it all off. We found out he has/had an allergy to fleas. Don't know if he still does, and I don't really care to find out.

We also have a flamepoint cat. No pictures. His name is Unique. Don't ask me why.

Finally looked through these, cool pets! I've had a slew of cats and dogs but developed allergies to both and had to get rid of them. It was hard but breathing is kind of important, Barb misses the dogs immensely and probably goes on runs just because she knows someone will bring a dog.

Haku - Josh, I noticed the name also has another meaning in Hawaii. Apparently it relates to lei's made from real flowers.

I think it is awesome, and a bit scary, how many people who have their dog as their online namesake on here.

I'm seriously missing having a dog around. My sister just got a puppy (haven't met it yet), and it is yet again making me want to get one myself. I would ask to take Haku back, but I still think my mom would get grumpy at me if I brought it up. Funny how she loves talking about how much he costs her to keep, but wouldn't ever dream of letting him live with me full time.

It is incredible what a rotty will eat and be fine, but when they eat something they can't digest it gets real expensive real quick. Chief was in hospital for 2 weeks after having a section of his large intestine removed. His seizures were ripping stitches open, they sent him home 3 times and we had to keep taking him back.

Truth. Rufus, our 13-year-old mutt, is going in for surgery Tuesday to repair the cranial cruciate ligament in his left rear leg. Last year, he had a 13-pound tumor removed from his gut, along with his spleen, which the tumor was attached to. He's turned out to be an expensive pound puppy. No regrets, though. He's been part of the family for more than 12 years.

And my wife made sure he got his summer haircut before his surgery, since he's going to have to live in a doggie crate for a couple of weeks.

My daughter, Casey and her husband had their dog, Ollie get stuck under their back deck the other day. Poor Ollie looked like she was stuck in a position where she was having trouble breathing. Casey and Trent went to town ripping boards off the deck to get to her out, but the "reverse" mode on their drill failed...

They continued to hack-away at it with screw drivers until they got her out and were planning to go out today to buy some chicken wire before they put the deck back together again!

That dog is a trip!

Agreed, my daughters (above) is a Great Dane/St Bernard mix. Not only are they good with kids and dogs and cats they don't require an awful lot of exersize. The same applies to Burmese Mountain dogs.

In the winter she likes to go outside and sniff around, her head dissapears in the snow. One time she came in with snow stuck to her face, with two little black eyes looking at me. She looked like a damn Moon Pie with legs!

I think I've just about always had a cat. I had one that I named Charlie (a girl cat) that would go with me everywhere. No leash needed. She was a Calico and the smartest animal on the planet.

We are currently "potty-training" Bella to use the toilet instead of a litter box. I really hope this works... the process is a bit of a mess, but the pay-off will be great!

Bug-a-boo is a doll!!!

Bugs had to be put down pretty close to after that pic was taken. He was an indoor/outdoor cat and one night he did not come in for the night. A day later(we were frantic) he showed back up with his tongue sticking out and a large sore on it. He would not come to me, and disappeared for another 2 days. When he was at the door again I grabbed him up and we took him in to the vet immediately, at this time he really stunk bad like death. His tongue was bitten by something and he had already succumbed to gangrene in his mouth on top of infection. We opted to put him down rather than remove tongue and hope for the best with antibiotics. This was the first death our kids have been thru, they still say they see Bug-a-Boo's ghost here and there at home or on walks.
Jackie, when I was a child my aunt had a Siamese cat that was toilet trained, it is one of the coolest things I have seen. The cat guy on TV is opposed to the practice, but I figure to each their own. Not having to deal with a litter box...priceless!!

We got this kit at PETCO called the "Litter Kwitter". It came with everything you need and an instuctional DVD that showed cats doing their business in a toilet. My husband someone whose cat actually learned how to flush after use!

My poor Rotty had a rough day yesterday. He is having trouble breathing, took him to vet and he has a sinus infection and got put on antibiotics. Then last night we were in backyard working on wife's truck and a skunk got in the yard, needless to say he went after it and got sprayed. Looking into it more found out skunk spray in the eyes can cause blindness for 2 days, thank god he seems fine. Wife made a solution of peroxide, baking soda and something else to clean him up.

You got that right! I know my cat's paws are cleaner (no stomping around in a filthy litter box) therefore my whole house is cleaner.

We're almost there... Just a small amount of litter for her to scratch at. She likes to scratch some into the hole before she does her business, but that's OK. That will slowly be eliminated.

Sorry, Bella...had to do it...!

It was quite a new experience for us. In the unfortunate event that someone needs to have their pet put down I highly recommend the guy we used. Price was pretty close to the same as taking him in to be put down but he came to our house and did it here. He sat down with my daughter and us so we could talk about things and my daughter could ask any questions she had. He made a clay paw print for us and will be dropping the ashes off at our Vets office so we can have a burial for him.

We learned of a Rottweiler in desperate need of a good home and have finally made it official that he is coming to our home. He is a year old and needs all basic training including housebreaking. He weighed 88 lbs when we took him to our vet for an inspection and to get things prepared for him to be neutered and shots updated. Bought him his new collar and tags today and enrolled both boys into a 6 week training class. Neuter happens on Friday and training 2 weeks after that. Terrible timing as we are preparing the house to sell and find one with a garage but we hate the bad rap breeds get because of irresponsible owners and had to rescue him. His name is Max.

Yeah they are doing great together. We brought him over for a trial weekend and we didn't get any sleep but the boys grew a good relationship. Chief is a bit older and gets tuckered out but they have been pretty civil about working things out themselves. We bought Max a pheromone collar that will hopefully help tonight (no sleep last night). If that doesn't work, as a last resort we have a static bark collar to use. Might just drink a little heavy tonight and sleep through it all :lmao:

An update on our new psycho dog, Max. He got neutered, immunizations, microchipped and dew claws removed leaving him wearing the cone of shame for last 2 weeks. He goes in tomorrow to get stitches removed from legs and hopefully we get thumbs up to return him to normal play. It has been rough keeping him in the kennel so much but had to keep the boys apart to prevent playing and licking. He learned our schedule very quickly and we ended up never using the static collar. He is hard on e collars, 10 days = 10 e collars. Last couple we cut down and made them last longer. We start our formal puppy training next week. We weaned him off the Puppy Chow the previous owner was using and both boys are on same food now. They like to switch bowls and see if I notice, might get away with it when the cone is gone.

Java turned 15 yesterday, and she did it in style at the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. She We've taken her there every year since we adopted her in 2009 and I have a pic of her in the same chair every year- check out page 2 of this thread. She also went for two short hikes and had lunch at a campsite off 376A in Fourmile, despite significant hearing loss and arthritis she still loves adventures. She is going to live forever.

There is no snow up there, most of the roads are completely clear- the other pic is of the hot springs, we were in a Cliffside room so you can see over the whole resort. If anyone in interested this month they have $99.00 rooms Sun-Thurs, which is a stellar deal they don't advertise too heavily. We paid 131 a night with the pet fee and it was empty- there were 8 people in the big pool last night, no one in the steam room or Japanese soaking pools.

Java
August 17th, 2018, 09:14 AM
unfortunately she has a suspected brain tumor that is causing all her issues- the vet ruled out everything else that is common but we're not doing a lot of testing on an old dog to verify it. there is no rhyme or reason to how that will progress, or possibly heal or possibly kill her while I'm writing this; she is walking better this week than all of last month, and oddly all of her lumps and old dog bumps disappeared over the last couple of weeks and her eyes are clear and her fur looks great. Without puting her through a lot of tests the vet can't tell us anymore, and I'm not doing that to my dog. Keeping her active and her diet clean is all I can do, so we're on it. The oldest border collie on record was 29, you never know...

Here is Bandimere, whom we are currently fostering. He appears to be a French Mastiff, but he'd have to be the runt of the litter, hes 20 to 40lbs shy of a typical weight. He drags his knuckles to a point that they bleed, he is absolutely untrained other than knowing his name, and he has some sort of skin infection that Bruce now has, but we are figuring it out.

That said, he is a sweetheart, he is really easily spooked, espically by men, but he is warming up and running away less after just a week, so there is a lot of hope for him.

He will most likely become permanent, but for now, Molly is pretenting she could just foster. :blah:  :D :lmao:

He's in picture #39 and 40 in his pen. https://www.zillow.com/homes/recently_sold/Fruita-CO/21839_rid/6m_days/globalrelevanceex_sort/39.222944,-108.685535,39.201098,-108.723987_rect/14_zm/

Before and after. Kix hadn't been bathed or groomed in so long they had to cut his collar off him at the shelter. We tried a lot of bathing and brushing, but he just had too many matts so I gave up and shaved him. After getting ridiculous quotes from groomers (up to $400.00) I decided to "learn how to fish" and spent $160.00 on a professional clipper and a #3 skip tooth blade. It took 4 hours over the course of 3 days but should never be that hard again. I found a staple and three live ticks on him. He's loving it, just cannot get enough of being pet or brushed.

Reilley upped his game this year and learned to drive the jeep...

I don't think that was the type of "work dog" the folks in the video had in mind - but he could cover more miles without wearing out his paw pads.

Got Kix one year ago today, one of the best decisions I've ever made. He's 13 this summer and still going strong, we have a ton of fun planned with him this year. Also, the clock in my Jeep is suddenly accurate today, must be Karma.

Caption: OK, I'm being nice by wearing this cap for you. The ice cream is ready, yes? Right here - between my paws - and I'm good.

Said goodbye to my boy this week. He was happy and healthy, recently had a good checkup and started a new pain pill. No symptoms, no warning except his age, he was 14 and 4 months. He had a great day, got home from a nice walk and collapsed at 6:30, his mouth turned white inside. We took him to the emergency vet and put him down at 8:00, turns out a mass on his spleen ruptured and there was nothing we could do. Devastated doesn't even begin to cover it.

Sad news to hear.

You folks took him on many wonderful trips - I'm sure he enjoyed a good life with you.

Just got back from my shortest Moab trip ever, about 16 hours total in Utah. Got there on Tuesday and went to https://underdogrescuemoab.org/ to meet some dogs and adopted Barnaby and hiked the Pinion Mesa trail on Sandflats at sunset (great short trail). They gave him that name and I like it, but I'm also considering calling him Leonard because he's lactose intolerant, learned that after giving him some cheddar before a car ride. He's about 18 months old and came from the Navajo reservation. His back is covered in scabs from being bitten by other dogs and his breath needs some help so he'll see the vet asap. He is really smart, sweet and fun but a little messed up too from his previous life. He's scared of me, not of my wife so I guess some guy was a dick to him. That will pass. Our hotel didn't take pets so we checked out and went back to Fruita and stayed at the questionable La Quinta. He went to Rabbit Valley, hiked Devils Canyon 1, 2 and 3, saw the National Monument and is back in Denver now at his new home and is getting along well with the cats. I've never had a small dog before, my last smallest was 56 lbs; he's 29 before they cut all his fur off, and probably full grown. Cool little dog so far!!

Cool! Congrats!

And true to form - step 1 is some time on wonderful trails - cha-ching

(I don't care to know the cheddar car ride details)

These little guys "followed me home" about a week ago. Seem to travel well in a vehicle but can only walk short distances still.

This is my girl Reyla. She can't stand being in vehicles though so she doesn't come on trail rides with me.

Same dog. He's been a ball of mats since we adopted him, finally decided to just start over. He's tight with one of our cats but the cat didn't recognize him and hid from him for two days. :thumb:
