Well my plan to camp this weekend on the west side of Gross Reservoir got hosed. The west sided is under construction. I guess they are putting in real campsites back there. I was kinda pissed to have my weekend of fishing flushed down the drain.

So I thought I'd see if the road to Lefthand Reservoir was open....nope. I ended up heading up towards Mammoth Gulch to see what I could find. I would have headed up to Kingston Peak but I found a nail in my passenger front tire and didn't want to push it.

Big clouds where the trail to Kingston peak starts.

Cooling off a bit. Need to get a real temperature gauge to see if I'm actually overheating or if everything is within parameters.

Decided I would camp somewhere in here.

Found a good spot off FR 176.

I have this tarp that works great for adding some shade out back.

Sunday I hiked down to Teller Lake. No trout but plenty of salamanders and leeches.

Today I decided to fish at Barker Reservoir in Ned. I had to catch some damn fish on this trip.

Caught a dragonfly. I actually caught him. My line got wrapped around his body while casting.

Finally caught a 13 incher with an old Panther Martin spinner from my Grandpa's tackle box. He passed away last year at the age of 99. I'm sure Grandma will like the pictures.

I was up driving around that area on the 2nd, it's a shame I didn't see you. Lots of jeeps and other vehicles, didn't see your truck though and I know exactly where you camped. I usually go down to the reservoir, and yes there were a lot of cars down in there. The weirdest was the early 00s Volvo and the acura TSX right before you drive across through swamp after going down the first hill from Mammoth Gulch road towards the reservoir. Saw a couple subies further in, but only trucks all the way at the end of the road. I was planning to hang out longer in the reservoir area, but I saw the herd of cattle in there and my dog gets in trouble around cows.

I didn't get there on the 2nd until sometime between 2 and 3 PM. After I found out the access to Gross was closed I drove up to Ward and then back down. The Honda I saw with the donut tire was right before the Volvo and Acura you speak of.

Those cows are crazy. I ran into them while hiking up the 176 road. They mooed like crazy and seemed pretty aggro.

I have seen cows up there every spring almost every year, they are always pretty aggressive. One year a bull went right into our campsite and just stared at us, he went away after we showed him the gun we had. :D

They probably have to deal with a lot of predators up there. Unfortunately my dog gets hyperexcited around cows and really freaks them out, I don't want him to get kicked or trampled.

and I did see that honda. Crazyness.

These are shots of when we ran Ellis/Elkhorn last year. The boy o boys were moving about 2,000 or more head of cattle and we had to literally drive right through them. It was good that they weren't the carnivorous cows and aggro. We were all somewhat thankful for that. I was still finding cow **** under my rig almost a year later...
