when i was in all i heard was it was FREEKING AWESOME. the only thing is the majcom is kindof hard to get out of once ur in europe ur usually there for a while which isnst a bad thing. When u sign up for ur dream sheet in basic put aviano up top and some other europe ones. DO NOT even just for kicks put a single state side base on there or u will get it dont matter where on the list it is. Sometimes people get extremely lucky and that wont happen but u dont wanna chance it. I was in Asia my entire time basically. and again Pacaf doesnt like giving people up either lol. Asia wise id go for Kadena where i was stationed it was freeking beautiful had a wonderful time there. what u going in for?

I'm open mechanical right now, but I am hoping for nuclear weapons, munitions systems, aircraft armament systems, or aerospace ground equiptment. my fiance's parents were stationed in Kadena for a while and loved it there, but it is not on the list of bases I get to put down. the only over seas one I get is Aviano.

u go nuclear weapons i almost gaurentee you ull go to Minot north dakota *been there its ******* hell all there is to do is drink and chase tundra wookies*, FE Warren wyoming, Iam forgetting one in montana. Aviano i heard rumors they are a PRP base as well but not to certain. There is also a command base over in California but yeah not that many people go there. Muns is cool **** the guys are super laid back and they are good party animals. I did the ICBM nuc security up in minot and my buddy *hes still in* does all the codes and etc. for matiance guys to go out and work on the nucs over in FE Warren. If your going pure straight up muns and not nukes there is no reason u cant go to any AFB base if ur being told otherwise something is not right. I gotta say though the Nuc bases are homestead bases which means ull never leave.

I was stationed at Malmstrom AFT, MT after tech school and it was not on my dream sheet. Don't have too much faith in the dream sheet. I worked on hydraulics for KC135Rs so I could have been stationed anywhere with an active runway. I put Alaska, New Mexico, and Utah on the dream sheet but it did not matter. Don't fall in love with Aviano just yet...
My career advice would be to go to college instead and join ROTC. If that is not an option, I would say go National Guard/Reserves because it is easier to volunteer for overseas TDY than an active duty guy (at least that was my experience in 6+ years of reserves). If you go active duty, pick a specific career field that lends itself to overseas assignments. Aviano was a fighter bas last time I checked so a fighter career field would help.
If you don't get your preferred base, it is possible to swap with someone who is headed there. You can usually do this during tech school.
I have been out for over 10 years so some of this has probably changed.

ya, My Fiance got Nuclear weapons, and she is in bmt right now. she was able to put Avaino for her first base. and I have been talking to a lot of people fresh out of tech school, and they said everyone but one or two people got their first pick on their dream list. I would love to go to Avaino, but if not that is fine, we will find something fun to do anywhere we go.

yeah they are pulling tons of oil out of the groudn up there was tempted to make a lil money and work up there for a summer. I still got a few freinds up there "locals" that sent me pics of the flooding it was crazy. Minot isnt allt hat bad hella cold but they got a alright mall and some good bars. Let me know if u guys end up getting it or even FE. yeah reserves or gaurd is def the way to go those guys when they go TDY make more money than active duty for doing the same job. IT was crazy annoying beleive me.
