N.E.P.A. has been hit hard by raging flood waters. This is the area where I grew up. Just hoping my family and friends back there are high dry and safe.

Little update. My family and friends made it through the flood ok. The levee system saved some of the Wyoming Valley, but the low lying areas got hammered. The levee system near my old stomping ground was raised around 2006 to hold back the river to a crest of 41 feet. The river crested at 42.6 feet (testing the system to the extreme maximum) and the levee held!!! The historic Agnes flood of 1972 crested around 36 feet... If it blew out at the town of Forty Fort again things would have been different. The scary thing is the water pressure from the swelled river was forcing water up out of the ground in Forty Fort. I’m not going to put too many pictures up – only a couple for reference.
This is a picture I took in July 2010 while riding the Mongoose on the levee path. The water was a little elevated at the time. There are houses and a cemetery directly behind that flood wall in the river bend. This is also the spot where the river bank blew out in 1972. About 2000 caskets were carried away.

Yikes - that's bad, but good the levee held. Glad your family and friends are ok. I've lived through many hurricanes, blizzards and even a tornado, but have never had to live through a severe flood situation.

Holy crap...I would have been pretty nervous living near that levy. Glad everyone is ok. Your pictures bring the story to life.
