For those who don't (or do) follow Indy Car, Dan Wheldon was lost this afternoon at the final race of the season. A spectacular multi-car crash. Apparently several others injured as well.

Race car drivers always know the worst can happen whenever they get behind the wheel.

That sentence at the very start of the article summed it up. You don't drive race cars or do a lot of other sports where you are risking your life unless you have the death and dying **** well sorted out. I have certainly started up rock, ice or mixed technical climbs where I knew that if I made even a simple mistake, it would be the last one I ever made in my life. Part of the allure to the sport for some people and the reason a lot of people avoid doing them. Some sports are just like that...

That was a crazy crash. I was surprised how fast the laps were clicking by. If anyone would like near original footage of the episode, shoot me a PM.

Dan was married and, IIRC, a 2 year old, quite sad.
