View Full Version : Bad and good news

Our house was foreclosed on and sold in record time. For the full amount thankfully. No need for any sympathy, we wanted out of our house as we were way upside down. We bought it in 2007 and the value has plummeted the entire time we have lived here. Plus it needs about 50k in repairs.

On with the good news, we have already rented a place in Lakewood at 1395 union st with plenty of parking so we can keep all our cars and camper. We are moving forward with buying land and in 2 years we will build our log home in the mountains. We wanted to do this in 2007 but felt intimidated, turns out we should have done that instead.

I do need to thin out our stuff and am going to be selling ALOT of stuff cheap. I will post up in the for sale section.

Woo. You picked a pretty good part of Lakewood to live in (as if there's a bad part)

The housing market hasn't done nice thing for a lot of people lately. I kill myself every day to stay employed and make that payment. There are things about renting that are certainly appealing sometimes. Keep yer chin up and nose to the grindstone.

Congrats on getting a place that will accomodate all your stuff! I understan about being upside down in the 1-1/2 year since we bought our house the market around us has dropped and now we are now 20-25k over what the selling prices are in our neighborhood. The house across the street was completely stipped to the studs and has everything brand new in it and it selling for 19.5k less than what we purchased ours for.
The log home is a great dream of mine too, it will be good to see you make it a reality!

My stepdaughter and her hubby have been trying to sell their house in Topeka KS for over a year now. They are on the verge of the same thing. New baby and no buyer.

Sounds like you are happy just to be out from under the note. Glad you are out and have a place for you and your stuff!

We are underwater too, and only because of the home value death vortex. I would LOVE to move.

Who was your Realtor? We lowered our price yet again last week - listed since May. (30k+ beating on the price tag not to mention the 81k+ in payments already made) It gets aggravating when people come to look and are like, "Wow, this place is really nice and very well maintained." (and that is all) WTF, are they expecting to see a crack shack??? It is hard to compete with all of the new developments going up even though you're getting linoleum, fiberglass/acrylic tubs+sinks and veneered particleboard vs. tile, porcelain and real wood. We want to get out of home ownership for a couple of years then somewhere down the road move into something more permanent - with less neighbors. Maybe even somewhere else. Anyhow, glad to see you were able to get out. Some days it feels like we're going forward in reverse around here.

This market just sucks Steve, not news I'm sure. We just sold our condo at a loss of 12k from the purchase price to say nothing of the 20k invested in improvements. We took the "bleed now" approach just to get out from under the "bleed monthly" mortgage and HOA payments. :frown:

We actually found a great piece of land up by you Paul. We did not pull the trigger as we were not in a place to plow about a mile of dirt road every time it snowed. :D

As for moving I am going to try and move on the 19th. This will give me Sunday to unpack. I am taking off the 18th to get all the furniture ready. We are already moving small stuff so hopefully most of that will already be there.

Totally a buyer's market right now. At least it's good news for some people.

Glad to hear your out of the old house and moving on to bigger and better things. Let us know if you need a hand with the move.

Brad
November 9th, 2011, 04:12 PM
I may have a handle on the move but will know more next week. We are taking stuff everyday as I work close to my new place. My ritual includes:
Get up, load up discovery as full as possible
Go to work
Lunch, drive over to new place and unload
Back to work
Go home and figure out what else I can take from the garage or backyard.
repeat.

Jenn is moving whatever she can manage from inside the house. Furniture day is a week from Sat. If anyone feels like helping please let me know.
I will buy the lunch and all the beverages you need. :thumb:

little Finland trivia for you Aaron, (you may know this), after WW2 the USA loaned out money to other countries, Finland was the only, thats right, the only country to pay back in full.:thunb:
If I can get away to help you Brad I will.

Picking up a truck this friday afternoon and moving Sat morning. Should only be big stuff, not alot of boxes. Some heavy stuff in the garage, ie 2 VW engine's 1 on a stand, porsche 944 trans and a audi 5 cylinder turbo engine block (I have a dolly for these). Other than that the usual house furniture. We have been moving all the little stuff for a week now and should have quite a bit of it done before we move. Plus I will have an additional week to finish up after so my primary goal is to just move the big stuff. Anyone interested in helping let me know.
