This is a pretty cool video of an Eagle Owl shot at 1000frames per second!

That was amazing. Owls are so cool. We have a coupla Great Horned that hang out in our super tall, super mostly dead, cottonwood. Thanks for posting!

We have one huge one here, too. Found a very large quantity of ...well...recycled mice on our back deck the other day.

Thanks for the post!

Funny, cause that is about my low low crawl ratio speed. Of course, watching a video of me crawling up something is a lot less interesting and more inclined to make one doze off...

I wonder if they will start doing crawl speed calculators based on FPS....

perhaps your rig could use some death talons on the front...

From an airplane realm the phrase "fly the wing" does come to mind watching that.

I have to say that I am more partial to stuff like this:

And this one:

Hawks, owls and Eagles simply do not **** around when they are hungry. There is a reason they are called 'birds of prey'. I would imagine that pterodactls munched a few of our ancestors back in the day...

Awesome vids!

I worry about my little dogs disappearing from the back yard, in just this manner. :frown:

Wow.
I wonder how the shooter got the owl to go after the camera like that.

Yeah, I was wondering what poor creature was attached to the tripod. Had to have been pretty tasty and/or alluring....Next door neighbor's noisy little dog, maybe? I know we have very few small dogs left in our neighborhood, possibly because of the huge owl, and I was talking to another neighbor down the road whose little dog was almost owl food. It doesn't go out near dusk unaccompanied anymore.

How do I lure one of those owls to my neighborhood? There are a couple yappers that should be a meal instead of the nuisance.

Start with mice then gradually increase bait size.

I thought the same thing, so this is where man learned this.....

We have a couple of chihuahuas here that could become bait for the wildlife, I only wish! Hate those little nervous yappers! But then again the German Sheppard behind us her owner has finally gotten the point after the second visit from animal control and $1000 fine he put one of those shockers on it to get it to shut up, It is almost as nervous as the chihuahuas. It actually needs to be taken out and exercised to burn off a lot of that stored up energy but its not my dog.

Those videos were something else with the eagles going after those goats like that, never seen those before.

Guy was very lucky and yeah I know it was the right thing to do freeing the birdie but he should have just killed it and been done with it, could have made a good meal out of it on the way down the hill!

Not sure about the vulture, that's a lot of feathers, although with that in mind I might be able to tie some flies with him. :D

Funny thing about birds, if you can cover it's head, it will calm down. We used to do it with our parrot when we had to trim his feathers or claws.

Here is another example.

I thought it was funny that the guy was telling the bird he should have filed a flight plan. I didn't see any feathers on him. And he screamed like a girl.

Brody

For someone who is way up in the air with that kind of problems, I thought he kept his cool pretty well. More pissed than actually scared. I probably would've covered the bird with part of the glider until I had it's head bundled up...if I wanted save it. Chances are, the bird would have ended up really dead because I wasn't in a great mood anymore.

I had the volume off, so I didn't hear his scream. Having taken a huge number of falls, some really long, in 40+ years of rock and ice climbing, I have only actually screamed one time. That was about 1/2 way up El Cap in Yosemite (1500') in the dark when I made a small mistake, thought I was in for the pancake finish, but only fell 80-100 feet. I also swung about 150' which added to the excitement level. Guys I was with thought it was hysterical, said that they probably heard me in Merced, and laughed some more when they found out I had pissed myself. Bastards...all of them... Anyway, most of the time when you fall, especially a long distance, you are simply trying to sort things out as best you can like this guy did, scream or not...

Yeah, thinking about it, the bird would have died and I would have taken some feathers as mementos to go along with the video. Might have clipped off the claws and beak too, simply to be spiteful.
