I've had the GoPro on my want list for a long. Finally got one, thing is giving me the "red ass"

I like the perspective, it's got a great picture. It's a little slow when the lighting changes, like coming out of shade into full sun.

But by far the most annoying thing is you never know if it's on for sure or not ( you can set it up for a blinking red light to come on during recording) but I think it would reflect off the windshield during recording. Not positive
but it makes sense to me. But even that doesn't matter because it's facing away from me anyway. I know you can get a $80 LCD screen that plugs in the back. But that only works out of the case. I thought I'd researched this enough. Evidently not!

Ya I have one and I have to listen to the beeps or look at it and make sure it's recording.

This is really annoying when filming dh trails since your in an out of the trees all the time at high speeds, has anyone come up with a solution to this?? cause i would love to know!

I just key on the beeps, if unsure just hit the button again, you'll know where its at

I'm a little disappointed in the video performance in general. It's not near what I was shooting with my Samsung point and shoot. Not even sure I'll keep it at this point. I got a Skeleton case that allows you access to the mini usb and the other ports. You can record when the power is plugged in if you start recording then plug in the cord. You can stop the recording while plugged in but you can't restart until you unplug it.

The LCD has a new back you put on, of it's own. You can use it just like you would without it.

As for the exposure issue, not much that can be done from what I can tell, got a buddy who rides DH for them & his shots look the same. It just doesn't have a very fast processor.

Going to get some stuff from my avy guy this week or next, if you want to pick up an LCD, let me know.

I'm wondering about the LCD. If I would read all of your post I would safe myself lots or re-typing. I'm really concerned about the exposure issue. My Samsung is just awesome mounted to the windshield. As far as quality, I have some awesome footage and some rotten. I ended up shooting over 10 gig. I have one 20 minute + video. Hey we sure had fun today, I have lots of you on that nasty section. I can post it or just give you a copy. I've got days of editing to do. I just posted some pics in the trail report section.
I'm debating whether I'm going to keep it or not.

I've also got some video of your wife on the Empire Hilton tree swing.

Take care it was good to meet the both of you, we had a great time. We stopped at the Lewis Sweet shop there in Empire, that place is crazy good.

Gopro cameras take a some time to get used to- just give it some time to learn its limitations and settings inside and out. I have taken mine offroad, scuba diving 100' down and on top of Long's Peak with good results. Lots of practice with it definitely will pay off. It has taken me some time to learn how to use it but it is worth it!

Pole Hill Road (not too exciting but I thought the quality was decent):

The GoPro does a great job in its realm. Hands down nothing better for a waterproof POV camera. I'm going to take mine back, I may try the GOPRO2. I haven't decided yet. The 2 addresses several issues that are a concern to me. Biggest issue is the transition between shade and sunlight. The 1 just doesn't handle it well at all. The 2 is supposed to have twice the processor. Good enough I don't know, if I get the 2 I will keep it whether or not it is or isn't. Just to have the versatility. If it weren't for the 2 coming out I would keep this and use it for something else.

I like showing a chunk of the hood in my POV vid's for a little perspective. With the lens of the GOPRO the hood looks like a surf board with vents.
