Here's the pic I mentioned Pete. This is what I found after pulling the wheel on my FJ55 a few years back. The bearing itself was a flat mangled piece of steel.

Over the years I have dealt with more than a few. Most looked pretty crappy. Last one I actually mangled was when I sheared the steering arm bolts on the driver's side which also took out the trunnions, upper and lower. They were all a mess. I imagine that the lower in this one is hashed pretty well. No big deal on the bearing or replacement, more worried about being able to clean up the hole enough to reset a new race. If that is crapped out really badly, then I will have to R&R the spare front axle housing I have, which I would prefer not to do.

Thanks for the picture!

I will post another pretty one when I yank my hub.

That's the primary reason I went with complete 60 series axles, that and the additional width and strength.

Well, if I had the $200 to spare, I would throw on the trunnion bearing replacement upgrade that TG has, eliminating the bearings altogether. I don't, so I will just replace the bearings...Oh well. They last a couple of years, just crap out somewhere other than in the driveway....:lmao:
