Synthetic vs Wire Winch Cables

My two cents: I have never had a steel cable break when winching and I have used winches for over 40 years. I use them for construction, farm and demo work in addition to wheeling. That is a lot of winches and a lot of cable use. I also know all the pros and cons of using nylon ropes of any kind from the same number of years rock and ice climbing. Me, I am going to stick with steel unless I build a rock buggy where I am concerned about weight and anticipate moderate use. Also, if you are in the habit of grabbing the steel winch cable without some leather gloves on( and not realizing that it is a good way to spike yourself) you may be well advised to go with synthetic simply for that reason alone.
