The other day (a few days pre-xmas) I was outside on my break looking at some guys 4 door JK in our parking lot.
I didn't actually go up close to it, but it looked like he swapped an independent suspension rear axle and it was rocking some 37's on 20" rims (tons of sidewall flex...:smokin:).
I was explaining to my manager why that wasn't the greatest combo, because more rubber = better sidewall/aired down flex, when the guy turned his wheel a little too much, got it stuck on the curb....and spun his tires....
All this happened in the parking lot in front of REI, with a layer of maybe 2" of slush. I couldn't help but burst out laughing as the guy proceeded to do a 3 point turn just to get out of his spot.
Remember, $$$$ doesn't always make it more capable.

I saw this very same Jeep last night when i was leaving the Avs game. All i could tell is there was some serious $$$$$$$$$ thrown at it, and not enough thought. Motor sounded good though...

Might not be independent suspension. It could possibly be a modified portal axle or a fabbed axle like I saw a while back on Extreme 4x4. Either way, too much money.

I'm intrigued by the axle. Sounds like noone makes a locker for it... but I'm still interested to know what it is. Aside from that, penis jeep all the way.

The wheel and tire combo really throw the look of it out the window in my opinion. Like Matt said so much for sidewall flex!

I like the expensive row of tree branch grabbers lined up across the top and the invisible full size spare tire too...:D

Yeah, it seems kind of wacky to me. Doesn't accomplish much that a portal axle can't do. Plus with the portal, you get the lower ratio.

Basic wear and tear.....nothing more, nothing less..

Nothing quite says "mall crawler or trailer queen" more than a huge row of expensive off road light that would get broken off running anything except dirt roads.

You're going to have to check those on a regular basis as part of routine maintenance, Matt. Especially since you've gone up in tire size. Putting a lot of extra load on those unit bearings running those monster meats!

Me too. Contrary to popular belief, once you get above a 37x12.50 on Yota axles, Longfields or not, you are pretty much at the limit of the Yota axles...Not saying that people haven't run bigger tires without problems, just that problems start appearing once you get bigger than 37x12.50 in either height or width...

Well I have to do maintenance on it as its been said. This coming Friday I am replacing axle shafts and bearing / hubs and it will be driveable again but this summer I hope to get it done completely (what a joke) with an exo cage, bigger axle in front and longer shocks and bigger tires. Possibly stop at 38s..
I hug the ZJ everyday, saying its gonna be O.K! =)
