Ever needed to bleed your brakes and there wasn't another body around to help? Ever wanted to 'pressure bleed' your brake system? All of these work on the premise that what you are doing is removing air from the brake lines/system and leaving only fluid. All of them work.

Any of the auto places have a little DIY brake bleeder kit that has a cute little magnet on the bottle for around $5. These also work well.
None of this is rocket science as you can see. Like I mentioned, you are getting air out of the lines and new fluid into the lines. A full flush should be done about every two years under normal wear and tear.
