Reverse lights dont light up.. I want to wire up a few back up lights but since I got the car pretty much the reverse lights never come on...
SO: bulbs checked and tested, wires are ok. fuses under hood ok, in the cabin OK..
Switch on the tranny???
thats the only thing I can think of at this point.. but I also know it's right at the bottom of my 44 / 46 RE so I guess the question is, how bad is gonna start pouring out? should I park it on a ramp? lol
anyone heading to a junkyard any time soon? new is like 11 bucks, not sure if thats the problem..
and yes, I do love jeeps, just hate mine.

Before I pull the switch from the tranny, pull the wiring [edit: from the switch] and manually short/open it and see what the lights do.
You could also, continuity test the switch w/o pulling it from the tranny.

Ew. Electrical stuff makes me itch (leftover from the wiring harness/system trauma with my '79 320i). Hope you get it figured out soon.

yeah I might short wire it and see if they go on but its not hard.. if I sit under the jeep, the switch is right there.. might as well get a new one on there.. i need a warm weekend!

I would bet on the transmission switch myself. I was at pull and pay denver today and there were a few jeeps kicking around. Cherokee and Grand Cherokee

No. The switch is above fluid level.

my switch seems to be at the very bottom of my transmission

Normally the switch is in the area of where the shift linkage/ cable enters the case, since this is what triggers the switch. Don't know your tranny specifically though.

As long as it's not in the transmission oil pan, you shouldn't lose any trans fluid.

cool thanks! I just shopped around though, nobody lists an actual switch.. the only thing they have is the neutral switch.. could it double as one?

Mine does. Just detects what gear you are in. Triggers one wire in neutral and park, and the other in reverse.

Here, Matt. It's a fix your switch link.

And another. Not as detailed.

And here's a place to order one that won't cost you an arm and a leg.
