might want to rethink going with Rusty's.. it's nice that it's cheap, but a lot of people on here would tell you something about quality and their customer service.. it takes months to get anything from them :2c:

Found the son's MJ bumper in the junkyard. Check out http://shop.jeeptubes.com/main.sc for front fender armor and rear fender skins. JCR has some screamin' deals on fold and weld http://www.jcroffroad.com/mm5/merchant.mvc bumpers. Check Rusty's, Tomken, GenRight for fuel tank skids. JCR, Skid Row, and Rusty's are a few that manufacture aftermarket transfer case skids. TNT Customs makes a better than average steering box/frame plate/bumper mount.

I agree. I'd save and buy quality parts. Like the old cliche, "Why is there never enough money to do it right the first time but always money to do it over."

I'd lift it first unless you're gonna wheel it (hard) every day. It will look cooler, make easy trails easier, and make you a better driver. You'll have to be carefull and learn to drive with finess, not by brail. There's 1000's of trails you can do without damaging it and that way you get some seat time.

I just saw some factory front and rear skids at the Aurora u pull&pay.They where in good shape. I bet you could get them for cheap!

No to Rusty's stuff. Crap quality. Save a little bit now and buy much better.

I've been looking at the Zone Offroad lift, their JK stuff is really really well reviewed, and it's the same price range... I've heard the RE lifts ride like a truck, and haven't read much at all about Rough Country, but they're really popular...so I'm considering that too. I've got a Rusty's trackbar, it's super beefy and hasn't broken (yet), and shipping got it here about 8 days after I ordered it, but it lacks simple engineering, the paint was crap (I spray painted it yellow so I don't really care), I'm impressed with the beefiness of it, but there's better for a little more $$, I'm sure the same applies to their lift - although I am hard pressed to find legit negative reviews on their lifts yet, just rumors... Lots and lots and lots of rumors, which is a bit offputting to me.

zone used to be crap, but it got bought out by BDS Suspensions so I assume that even though it is now their "affordable" line of products, the quality improved and im sure they warranty stuff like usual. Rough Country is probably as shitty as it gets.. I've seen their parts break on first outings, the Rubicon Express went out of business and it wasnt because they had good quality stuff or customer service either.. it is now bought by the owner of 4wheels parts, and they are trying to push that product out as much as possible..

then again, I am really picky as far as brands go.. if it's not best, its worthless because I don't feel like redoing things over and over again. I've learned that with my first jeep..

Josh at S.F.F custom makes a really nice set! I had him make some for my ZJ, you can check those out on my build thread. I believe he charges about 250 or 260 a set

These are now bent and warped. The material is thinner than I was told and has caused damage to my rockers and floor. pics soon

I'd be drilling a couple holes to see how thick that steel is.

Well, I had my 5-6k lbs jeep slam on them on carnage and chinaman gulch and they seem to be holding up great =) I'm very happy with them

I've been planning on getting the Fessy Built sliders, they're inexpensive and look great. Either that or a similar weld-in deal like EricsXJ did.

If you are going to do the weld ins, you might want to do the unibody frame stiffeners first so that you actually have some real metal to weld to....and no one is going to extoll the virtues of the metal thickness used in the Jeep unibody frames....:lmao:

Definitely, Brody. Everything I've read and heard, welding something like that to the frame's metal wouldn't really benefit me much.

Fessy's are good. But, like Pete said, you need to run some unit body stiffener rails if you're going to install any weld in stuff. Don't know anything about the Serious stuff. Frank, you have any pics of yours anywhere???

Here's a couple of options for the unit body stiffeners. I'm a bit partial to the RuffStuff ones just by virtue of design. They spread the weld load over a much greater area. The T&T ones are nice, just two pieces.

I currently run JCR sliders on mine. Been happy with them.
I think next time I will have them built by Pete or Frank. It is always good to keep it local. :2c:

Hypoid (Mike) has a set of mine for his wife's station wagon.Fixed! You should have seen the looks she was giving me on the way home from the meet-n-greet. :D

I'll try and get a picture posted for you Jon. These come pre-drilled so you can run 1/2" bolts through the sub frame, backing plates were included. Each side also has holes drilled for attaching to the pinch seam.

They are a very nice product. I was surprised to not see them listed on the website. :confused:

I've got a buddy that wants to do a set of sliders like this, but it'd still make sense to tie them back to the unit body rails as well as run the unit body stiffeners. When performed correctly, this particular rail works really well.

That's what I'm ultimately going for.. I plan on doing pretty much the exact thing Eric did - it's so clean and effective, not to mention, I really like the narrower look of the body when this is done w/ shorter doors. Not to mention I'll gain clearance this route, and since I don't want to lift sky high, that'll be a great benefit.
