Look at the Serious Off Road post on winches in the vendors section. He was selling these for a good price and I posted a lot of information that is already on the forum as well as some links to product reviews on the Engo winches on his same thread.

If you do buy one of the Engo winches, please keep it in house and purchase it from Serious...:http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?15397-Ready-for-a-low-buck-Winch&p=180348

Here's a write-up done by Fourwheeler magazine and a review by a member of Jeep Forum and a little bit about the founder of the company.

Ok, here's the deal. A while back, I mentioned that an off road magazine was doing another winch shootout. I'm sure many of you remember some years back and they did a head to head with Warn, Superwinch, Harbor Freight, etc... Well, another one has happened and is in the current July issue of Four Wheeler magazine. Eight winches were tested. Six winches were destroyed during the course of the tests. Only two survived and one of which was the Engo E9000... and it made it look like a breeze and passed with flying colors. In my opinion after reading the article, I personally think the Engo should have come in first place in the competition, but the testers put silly stuff like 60 points for remote control function and ergonomics as more important than whether it passed water, stall, speed, etc tests. :shaking:

Anyway, a 9000 lb winch for $289 to anywhere in the lower 48 states. Lifetime Warranty on the mechanical. Only from JeepAddOns.com. Call me today at 800-388-8637 ext 1884 and I'll get your order in and out the door.

^^ OK, so that was odd. This seemed to be a test of, 'how fast can we destroy a winch'. The winches were not the proper rating for the 8,800 lbs truck that was used in the test. And the stall test maxed out the winches WELL beyond their intended ratings. So, what does all this prove. Would it have not been a better, more accurate test, to use the proper weighted vehicle that these winches were intended for??

Well, yes and no, which doesn't answer your question at all. Sure they abused the winches, but I think part of that was because you get people like me who seriously abuse their winches. The ratings for almost all of the winches are usually lower than what the winch can actually pull. I think part of the 'test' was to see exactly how far you could push the rating before the winch simply quit.

I know that I have overused and abused every winch I have had, only actually stalling them out once or twice. I have demoed building walls, removed pieces of foundation, pulled stumps, strung barbed wire, put up pole barns, demoed garages, patios, and other structures, blah, blah, blah.

I think part of the test was also informative as to the packaging. If a company doesn't really give too much of a **** about their product, then they simply aren't going to care too damn much how it is packaged for shipping to the consumer. I have installed quite a few different makes of winches and have to say that the packaging on the Mile Marker, Warn, Ramsey and SmittyBuilt is pretty damn bombproof. PITA, actually, but you get the feeling that the company actually wanted to get the product into your hands without dings. I just installed Juno's SmittyBuilt and not only was the packaging stellar and solid, it was also double boxed...

I think if I was looking for an economical winch that would do the job and wasn't expecting to abuse it, I would seriously look into the Engo winch, especially as the guy that is behind that company isn't just some yahoo, but has a solid winching background.
