My speedometer sensor went out on my YJ and I need a replacement. Mine has a long shaft 41 tooth gear with 3 pin body threaded into a metal housing. From what i have seen, these aren't all that common and i haven't found a replacement yet - does anyone know if the short shaft assembly is interchangable? I know that the short gear needs to go into the short body but the complete assemblies do look interchangable if the electronic pulses are the same. Or any help with a replacement here in northern Co would be awesome!

High country performance 4x4 will get you one. Tell them ur gear ratio and tire size and they will get you one thats perfectly accurate. I've gone through 2 of those

Can't help with any suggestions up your way. High Country is south Denver. 4 To Go is on the north side. You may be better off simply ordering it online. Here is a good source with a nice parts breakdown:

EDIT: you're looking for the complete assembly as yours failed? I don't know if short/long assemblies are interchangeable, sorry.

EDIT2: If you want to use mine (if it's the "other" type) for fitment testing, you're welcome to pull it and try.

Quadratec has this chart:

If you're looking to order online...

Pretty much the same info, but I added it to the Speedo post in the Jeep Make and Model link.

Thanks, Jim!

Caught this over at JF:

sensor for sale

As post edits don't come through via e-mail updates, my post above has an item you might wish to check (my vehicle as a donor parts bin)

Thanks guys for all the information! Sorry if I posted this under the wrong heading- I guess it should've been in the Jeep specific area.

I am looking for the upper sensor portion (the gear and lower housing is good). But therein lies the problem; apparently, I have the long shaft style which is more rare than the shorter, all plastic version (as shown above for the '95 yj). I spoke with the guys at 4x4 Off Road and Used Parts in Fort Collins (they had a bucket of used sensors) but none like this one. Jeep went from the cable operated in 91 to the electronic in 92 so I think that this is probably a transitional model sensor before they went to the more common short version.

I did find a generic one online that I am going to try- we will see how it works out. Can't beat the price at $20+ shipping. Looks like it is generic enough to fit many different models by including the pigtail connector to replace the original plug:

I'll let you guys know how this works out... :D

Actually it should go in the "Tech Help Wanted" section. I'll move it there now.

Update - this replacement worked: http://www.stockwiseauto.com/product_info.php/cPath/1110_1270/products_id/224698?Make=Jeep&Model=Wrangler&Year=1992&osCsid=f96816a39a49e0cc928096006a11769b This worked well- the only thing to be aware of is the existing plug requires replacement and soldering with the supplied new plug. Below its the comparison between three old and new (notice the square shaft is rounded off making it inoperable.
