I'm thinking about getting Britton a GoPro for his birthday so I am reaching out for advise. He will likely use it when driving his motorcycle. We may also want to mount it to the front of my Jeep on ocassion. Is there a certain model I should consider over another? Also are there "must-have" mounting accessories or something else I haven't thought of? He's already got editing software - so I'm not concerned about that part.

His birthday isn't until July, but I'd like to get it for him early so he has it for our Moab trip in April!

I would purchase the motorsports kit, if I remember correctly it will cover all ose bases. You can also purchase individual mounts, etc afterwards. One thing a lot of people forget about is the memory card you need, it's not included. I bought mine on amazon. Don't pay more than $240 for the go pro. If you can't find one at that price let me know.

They just released a new model but I'm not sure what the upgrades were.

I agree the motorsport package will be the best, on the new model, as far as I know it just more capable.

I have a hero HD, great camera. the motorcycle kit will come with a couple mounts, they also have grab bags of mounts that will give you a lot of options for mounting.

This is the chest mount, too low for my liking so I usually use the helmet mount.

Yep that's the motor sports package. The he hero 2 has upgrades shoots better in low light conditions and shaper image. The new one has a mode to shoot 120 fps for really smooth suPer slow motion. Also most do not come with an ad card. I use the 16 gig card and never had an issue.

Anybody know a local store that stocks the GoPro Hero2 with the automotive pack?

Bestbuy offers an Automotive package, but costs over $400.... includes an extra battery and a 8GB memory card. Only stocks the Outdoor package, that comes with the headband mount for $299.

I just placed the order on mpgear.com. I got free shipping and a free 16G SD card. Total $299. We'll see how we like it and add on as needed.

Thanks for the help here!

Rats - After I got my order confirmation, I got another message saying it's on back-order. I just called and told the girl on the other end of the line that I REALLY wanted it (birthday gift - MOAB!) :blah::blah::blah: And told her I would totally brag up their company if they can put me to front of the line! We'll see!:smokin:

I might have to give that a whirl, Robyn! Thanks:thumb:

I took Robyn's advise. I canceled my order with mpgear.com since they couldn't promise I would have it before the Moab trip and they totally understood. Very nice customer service.

Then I ordered one from the Motorcyle Superstore and they guaranteed delivery by next Tuesday! The same total price, but no SD card. That's OK. For $25 bucks, I'd rather have the camera sooner than later.

No - I don't think I get a caard from them. But I'll go buy a 16G one from Best Buy and call it a day. Then after I give it to Britton, I'll let him decide what additional accessories he wants.

Thanks again for your comment. It got me back in motion and now I know he'll have it for Moab!

Mr. Brown just delivered it to my door. Plus I picked up 2 16GB cards and a spare battery. That should be enough to get him started and the he can get additional accessories if he wants them.

Can't wait till he gets home on Monday. I want to see this thing out of the box!

i just purchased a 32 GB card from Best Buy for just over $ 30. Bought the GoPro from them as well with a suction cup and a roll bar mount. Decided real quick that I wanted the LCD Bacpac as well, so i could actually aim the camera and see what I was taking video or pictures of. Don't take long to be into this camera for $ 450. Excellent video quality so far and the suction cup mount works well on the windshield of the jeep. Haven't had time yet to setup and try the rollbar mount.

I want to open it all up and try out the mounts and go drive around the block or something (but that would be mean)! I'll wait...

Yea....i figured as much. Have a suction cup mount for the GPS too and is doesn't like cold weather. Maybe it's an omen for me to just skip the snow runs.
