View Full Version : Jeep e-locker no workie. ?

I was having issues with the D44 e-locker engaging after I replaced my front axle. So I tore into it and I found these "L" brackets floating around.
I have looked on web. nothing. Does anybody know what these are? Any help would be great.

I think they are part of the stator assembly. If I'm looking at this right, it's the tabs that lock it into the bearing cap. It's the 4th part from the right. It's the two tabs held in place by the right hand bearing cap in the bottom pic.

Okay I pulled the locker out and found the pressure plate that those teeth broke off of.
BUT, now i need to pull the bearing. Does anyone have or know of where I can use a "clam shell" bearing puller? I know this is an easy fix, I just can't pay a dealership right now.

It looks like it is the electronic magnetic plate that needs to be replaced. It has 4 teeth that engage to keep it straight.
What a cheep ass part that keeps it from working. It figures. : )

Yeah, it's the stator assembly. I've got the press to put the bearings back on just not to pull them off. 4 wheel parts has a clamshell puller kit on sale for $380.94. They're awfully proud of that damn thing.

Do you know if that plate is a jeep part only? And i may take you up on that offer when ready to put back together.

Is it a Dynatrac axle with an Eaton E-Locker or is it Chryslers version of the E-Locker???

Well its a stock rubi, i think its chryslers version.it is an air locker

Wild thought... Do those tabs undergo great stress? ANY hope that epoxy would be strong enough to help by gluing them back on (so you would not have to disassemble)?

I realize the "glue it" comment may be so far out in the field, but if it could work it might save you some hassle (agreed - you'd need to prep surfaces before any epoxy application).

Could you tack-weld'm back on?

Looks like it might be a dealer only part. You'd have make a few calls to find out.

My buddys waa getting rid of his rubi axles.. I can just ask or see if I can snatch the front for you.. or at least the locker

I'm kinda confused - wouldn't an 06 Rubi have that Japanese air locker from the factory? Is this the air locker or an E-locker?

It is an Air Actuated locker.

So went to go get parts from the dealer ship this morring,only to find out the part I really need only comes with the carrier:mad: 1,500 bucks for a pressure plate and carrier that is how it comes? WTF!really!

Crap - put an ARB or an E-Locker in there. Cheaper.
Throw that factory locker in the scrap heap.

Unfortunately Eaton does not make an E-Locker for the Rubicon D44, front or rear.

ARB is an option but it will need an on-board air source to function. The 5-10 psi from the OEM air pump isn't nearly enough to operate an ARB.

Not to sure what way iam going. Looking into arb, and detroit e locker. I really don't want to drop anymore money into air compressor or on board air. I was thinking my air would run a arb?

He was referring to his OEM air pumps for the lockers.

I spoke with John today and explained why an ARB wouldn't work with them. ARB's need roughly 80PSI to operate.

Keep in mind that Rubicon D44's are a different animal altogether. Unless the manufacturer specifies that it's a product for the RUBICON D44, it won't work.

Took it to high country and had them weld the tabs back on.
everything went back together fine, and went out wheeling the next day,
She ran like a champ:thumb:

this is something i heard third hand from a shop owner down in the springs but i heard the rumor that the RUBICON d44 are more like d30s with 44 outers or something like that ........which could explain why regular d44 stuff wont fit
