Junyarded axles run $125 for drum to drum and $150 for disc to disc roughly. A full rebuild runs about twice that. I would let funds dictate which direction you choose to go.

hey thanks, any chance we could get the gears to rebuild the diff ourselves?

You can, Randy's Ring and Pinion online will have the parts you need. However it requires some specialized tools and a lot of patience to get a good gear setup that will run quiet and last.

I'm one of those people that would rather do something myself, if I can, rather than pay someone else to do it. And I've done 7 or 8 gear setups, all of which are still working...so far at least.

If you're good with your tools and don't mind spending some $ on the specialized tools then go for it. Just remember that rebuilding a rear end will get expensive if you screw it up.
