Went up to Red Cone today, there was only two of us. Squishee1 and myself. The weather was great. The veiws weren't all that great because of the large amounts of smoke in the air. The trail is in great shape. There was a tree across the trail about 7 feet above the trail though i didnt get a picture of it. Also saw a group of mountain goats on the trail about 100 trds from the summit.

Thanks for the pictures and report!

Chase-When did you take the grill off? I have seen you a couple of time, didn't see the painted grill, and then went "Naw, that's not Chase..."

Looks like a blast, and holy cow the mountain goats - SO CLOSE!! It's also really cool to see photos of the trail that're NOT the top. Chase - what did you hit? You look a bit crumpled up front!

I'll let chase explain what happened to his grill.

The goats were amazing to see. They walked right up to us while we took some pictures.

Well, you see.... i started that day in a rush, i was trying to put the doors back on my car and make the deadline of meeting up at 9:00 am, so i finally got the doors on and started to drive. so i was heading down highway 73 and about 5 miles after leaving my house someone was turning left and there was on coming traffic, i was just around the corner and there was a person behind her (driving a 1999 or 2000s ford f150) i saw that they were stopped so i hit the brakes and knew i wouldn't stop in time so i pushed the brakes all of the way to the floor and it just felt like pushing on a sponge, i had the brakes to the floor and not one skid mark, i do not have abs brakes. so i smashed my front bumper into her rear bumper, it bent my bumper and broke my grille. so then i met mike at the gas station and we set off for red cone, once we got to red cone mike hooked up his chain to the front of my bumper and we pulled the bumper out of the auxiliary fan (which still works) and ran the trail with no issues. i hit the truck doing about 10 mph and i was doing the speed limit which was 40mph. I don't remember how much stopping room there was... but i know it was more than enough for me to stop, but something just aint righ with tham brakes! Today i went to the junkyard and got myself a new bumper and a new grill and now it looks better than before!

Hey chase... I would have added a master cylinder to that list from the junkyard... just sayin... ;)

Im not leaking any fluid... so no splits, just sucky brakes!

great pics! Chase, check your pads / shoes, if they're really low it can behave that way.

Sucky brakes on Red Cone? That's living dangerously Chase! It doesn't take much to replace them with ones that work...

Brand new pads and resurfaced rotors! and a new master cylinder! Could it be the booster, it seems like it works just fine, brakes are nice and easy to push!

Did you bleed them well?

Squshiee1
July 3rd, 2012, 06:26 AM
I bled them to the point of no more air bubbles, NOT ONE! not even little ones.

does sounds like air... the only other thing I can maybe think of is a bad proprotioning valve, too much to the rear?

Chris
July 3rd, 2012, 05:45 PM
Lost track of this but you have a good point Paul, did you adjust the proportioning valve after your lift Chase?

Squshiee1
July 3rd, 2012, 09:33 PM
I did not, does it really mater though, i haven't modified the brakes or brake lines. the only thing i did was add some longer shackles and crank the front tbars.

Chris

It should be raised off the axle the same amount as your lift. It determines how much pressure goes to the front & back brakes. Right now you're not getting enough to the front - they do the real braking and should get about 70% the pressure.

Squshiee1

HMMMM, maybe i should check into that
