Does anyone here know of a good place to go online and prepare a last will. Want to do it myself for free rather than pay an attorney. And no, I am not dying just want to be prepared and make sure my daughter and wife are taken care of. :lmao:

Make sure the following is at the end. You can buy forms pretty cheap or get them in a library.

It may be worth paying someone to ensure it's done right. My sister-in-law and her husband used a cheap "legal document service" that pretty much supplied the forms and witness. When he died was when she found out how poorly written it was and she ended up spending thousands to get what was rightfully hers when the will was contested. Once you have a good will you can add addendums to that. Just my :2c:

This really is true. There are many technicalities that need to be addressed and it gets more and more complicated with property etc.

Many local community centers offer will making classes. My wife and I did one in Longmont several years ago. It was run by an Attorney. She provided Colorado quality forms. We completed them there (hand written but totally legal), witnessed and all. Out the door for both of us under $100 ea.

I am just looking to do something free to get me started. It will hopefully be modified many times from there :D I know there are some free sites and was hoping one was decent.

X2 on this, Cliff. It's also not a bad idea to name a professional as executor.

x3. One of our tenants is a lawyer that does a lot of wills and estates and probate and that kind of thing and there are nightmare stories. My husband and I want to have ours done, too - especially for days like today when we're going wheeling *without* the kids. Regardless, smart move to put something in place. Good luck!

I had our family attorney do mine. I do have a few houses, my cattle herd and some assets. They way he worded some of it helps protect my kids so they get what is rightfully theirs. My mom was in probate for years with a great aunts will (mainly cause there was a lot of money involved and natural gas royalties), and its just not worth it. Your smart for wanting to get it lined out now, but you may want to have an attorney give it a quick look, just to be safe.

I saw a thing on this a few years ago, and from what I remember you can do two really good things for free- a Living Will, and a video of intention or video will. Basically sit down and say it, talk your butt off about what you'd like to have happen in your own words. No harm at all in researching what to say, and speak to all the points people have posted above. It's hard to argue with YOU about what you wanted. I'm not sure how powerful a video would be in court, but I'm no legalologist or whatever.

Can't recommend them first-hand and it's not free, but I've been meaning to check out LegalZoom.
