I don't know how the rest of you feel about this, but as the mother of a young girl (as well as an adult daughter who lives only one block form the missing child), this is hitting close to home.

My adult daughter had her house searched by police the other day and she certainly had no objection. She and her husband said they have seen the girl play in the yard across the street from them from time-to time. They also made hot coco and planned to go look for the girl on Saturday until the police asked for "no more volunteers". (They were so hoping to find the girl and offer her something warm).

I've read reports that state that the police "don't have reason to believe Jessica was abducted". REALLY??? They also say they don't think our kids are in danger. ( wha...?) Then why all the extra police protection at the schools? And please tell me how a 10 yr old girl magically "disappears" if she has not been abducted. Something is very fishy here...

Stay close to your kids and keep your eyes open.

Thanks for the info Jackie. Let us know if they happen to need volunteers in the near future. It sounded the other day like they had more than enough, so I didn't make the trip up there. Happy to help if they need it later.

Thanks Jeff. I just left a message with the PD stating that I would be happy to call upon the 4x4 community to start searching elsewhere if needed, in the areas not easily accessed by car or on foot. I'll post up if they call me back. I know the word will spread rapidly if they need our help.

Nothing I can add to that. My heart goes out to everyone involved, especially Jessica and her family.

Have been watching this since it first aired. Really sad news. Will def volunteer to search in the mountains if need be.

I got an email back from the PD saying they don't need us at this time, but I would suggest that if anyone is wheeling in the area, please keep your eyes open for possible clues and call the police if anything looks weird. I hope they find this little girl alive.:frown:

What a sad day it was to learn that the missing girl was found the way that she was found. We have a monster roaming around our neighborrhoods and we all need to be extra cautious and observant.

My heart goes out to the family and friends. The sicko-monster that did this NEEDS to be caught so we can try to get our community back to normal (if there is such a thing).

I was wrong in my first post...I said my eldest daughter lived a "block away". In fact she lives 2 houses away across the street. My daughter and her husband had their house searched by police a second time at about 9:30 last night. The police went through every drawer, every closet and even cut open storage boxes to see what was inside. They did a great job considering the circumstances. They left no stone unturned. Casey came over to our house after work tonight and didn't want to go home until she knew her husband was home from work. And we wouldn't let her leave until we knew he was home. It's so sad that everyone is so afraid of the dark right now.:frown:

I had a sinking feeling from the moment I heard. The person who perpetrated this atrocity needs to be found and dealt with accordingly.

I felt the same way from the first. The laws don't allow someone like this perpetrator to be dealt with accordingly, at least in my opinion.
My thoughts & prayers go out to that unfortunate family, and all their friends and neighbors.

There are many experts looking for the person that did this. He must be scared at of his mind and he will slip up. They will find him.

Condolences to her family and friends. Jackie we cannot begin to imagine how you and your neighbors feel. I hope that the individual/s responsible for this atrocity off themselves or they are taken out by a 'concerned citizen', that is real justice, not the laws versions, unfortunately. Another reason we support CCW, open carry, basically the 2nd amendment! We put dogs down for less.....

I sure hope so. We live within 3 miles of the home, which is right by Nick's high school. We won't let Skyler walk or ride his bike (5 blocks) to and from the elementary school any longer, until they find this sick *^#&%#$@. So heartbreaking and devastating. Can't comprehend how there's people like this out there. Just don't get it. A whole community heartbroken and terrified.

Truely horrible what happened to little Jessica, hope they capture the person who did this to her and well lets just say I cannot post my complete thoughts of what should happen to that person. Prayers go out to her family!

This is a huge break today. I hope they find enough evidence to put him away for life because I hear that since he is only 17, he could get out in 40 yrs. (Of course, prisons have their own code-of-conduct...so who knows).

It's not only sad that he (we assume at this point) did this to Jessica and the other female involved, but there is the possibility that he may have hurt others as well - AND THE KID IS ONLY 17!

I can only imagine the remorse the parents of the kid must feel. I couldn't live with myself if I knew I "created a monster".

He's close enough to 18 to be tried as an adult Jackie. If the courts don't find that to be the case prison justice will.

You can see it in his eye's that he is the culprit! Now, prove it is him, then bullet to the head, quit wasting valuable resources keeping this scum alive....to do it again in say 40 years. Very numbing to know it was a 17 year old.......

I knew they would find the person quick. They probably knew it was him for a while but just needed enough evidence like DNA to make the arrest. That kid has a tough life ahead of him...

Nick went to school with him, and a really awesome friend of mine teaches that forensics program. How in the hell do people have it in them to do this kind of thing? I don't understand how anyone could ever conceive of it first, and second, think it's a good idea to actually carry out the crime. I hope he never makes it to trial. Agreed with Jim, too, or at the very least, got the DNA and confirmed right away if the mother did call - otherwise, I would think they'd be more careful about plastering a minor's name and photo everywhere. WTF is WRONG with people.

This sounds like it will be an easy case to close with all the DNA and the confession. What a POS.

Heather, I forgot Nick was still a student at SLHS. I hope he's coping with the news OK.
