A video from South Ferry, that's the last stop in Manhattan before taking the ferry to Staten Island. It's a huge station, as big as some minor league ball fields. this is the "official" MTA video of what happenned to it that they release to the news media for them to cut it up, this is the raw footage. I didn't realize until 2:15 that he's not even in the subway, he's 2 flights of stairs up and the water is that deep. Must be 50' deep below him.

That is so intensely amazing and awful and creepy. I wonder what is involved, and how long it will take, to get the subway functional again. I can't imagine the impact having the subway system down will have on NYC people once the city gets more or less back up and running - don't a lot of people forego auto ownership for public transportation?

Oh man that is going to make things in NYC completely different. I hope all out there are OK. It's been scary to watch/read about!
