When I got up tonight to and got ready for work I looked thru the mail and received a letter for my insurance company 21st Century that they are not renewing my policy on the ranger do to it being modified, roll cage, skid plates, bigger tires all aftermarket equipment designed to enhace performance is what they are stating (this after 6 months of with them). Here is what my gripe is; when I started my policy with them I openly asked if they covered modified vehicles with these mods and the answer was YES so after six months of paying for full coverage they are pulling this crap, I call total BS!
I hate how they play their games like this to sucker you out of your money! Its due to their Underwriters policy, ah excuse me they knew from the start what the undderwriters policy is so I feel this is fraudulant actions on their part. I am filing a complaint with the Colorado Insurance Division that investigates these things and hopefully they can help take some recourse against 21st Century. Now I have to look for new insurance again and it will be for both vehicles as I am not leaving my car covered with a compnay that pulls BS like this.
Insurance companies are as big a theives as attornies are!!!

Yeah they all suck. We are with Progressive now and they have been good to us so far. My wife hit a deer and they fixed our car and our rates went down the next time we renewed. Stay out of at-fault accidents and tickets and it's not bad.

American Family Insurance covers my Jeep. I have an "endorsement" that I pay extra for the customized parts. I don't know what reasonable prices are, but I pay them and they insure me.

We have Geico, I never thought to ask about the mods. I am thinking of switching anyway.

Everyone hates insurance until they need it. Don't expect stuff to be covered if they aren't told about it. When you insure you have to let the insurer know what they are insuring otherwise they check your serial number and insure it as a stock truck. I recommend everyone forget about the online forms and talk to a human instead so you can be sure you get what you need. You should provide photos & descriptions for any mod and tell them you take it off road. Another good idea is to check in to a "stated value" policy where the value of your truck is stated up front to eliminate any questions when you file a claim.

I agree with getting a "stated value" policy. A lot of companies won't cover the mods. And yes, insurance in general sucks.

That is one think I did was ask if they wanted pictures of the truck for their records and the guy said that it was not needed. It just stinks that after the okayed everything and I paid for extra coverage for 6 months they now shange their story about it being a modified rig for speed and performance oh yeah slower speeds hahaha!
Anyhoots Gieco had no problem with it all along but after they raised my rates for the vehicles and house for a high number of claims in our area (which I did not have any claims) I said I DON'T THINK SO! I am not paying higher rates because of other peoples claims when it does not involve me. Going to try USAA again and see if they give me a different story about being a Vet this time.

I'm with progressive, they've been fine so far. The only thing I didn't like was the "snap shot" discount, it's a horrible little beeping thing that plugs into your OBD port and beeps everytime you brake hard, make a fast turn or anything else it doesn't like. amazingly annoying, I was screaming at it the first day. I sent them back after a week, it's just not worth it.

Good luck with that Sean, insurance is based on exactly that kind of stuff. Live where there are more claims and you pay more, simple as that. Even USAA underwrites using those statistics.

I got my quote from USAA which turned out to be really good and will save a nice amount of money next I need to call them on Monday and make sure they will cover the truck. But it is nice that this time they are not telling my service time doesn't count like that last time.:)

I have never had to do any of that with usaa. I have had 2 modified vehicles totaled with usaa and getting paid market value with modified parts hasn't been an issue at all. I never even have to let them know about the mods. A simple phone call gets the vehicle added.

Good to know, thanks Nicholas!

I've had AllState for a lot of years, they're not the cheapest but I've found they're somewhere in the middle. I've never had any problems with them. In fact, when my wife had a an accident out of state with her Commander, they did a really good job of getting out in to a good shop and getting it taken care of. The other nice part is Allstate has a lifetime warranty on the work so if something goes wrong, we don't have to take it back to the shop in IL, Allstate will get it into a local shop where ever we are. The thing about insurance rates is that they are regulated and are reviewed by the state to make sure they charge enough money to pay claims. If you find cheap rates the company is either really exclusive about who they'll insure or they're really stingy about their payouts. Even though I did all of my insurance via phone and internet, their are still local agents I can go to with questions/concerns. As an added bonus, a portion of my premiums go t o pay for the "Mayhem" commercials...those are funny.
