Planned to go to Estes Park today, hadn't caught the news for a few days and didn't realize it was on fire. Ended up heading west instead to this place; little hint, the owner is so honest :thumb: that you can get change in the mail...

I've seen that sign but my memory refuses to tell me where. :brody:

Are those private, pay toilets?
Sorry I can't tell ya where, but I was guessing the fire had kicked up - it smelled wonderful in town today (I'm all for "some" natural forest fire burning).

didn't realize it was on fire
That's the Fern Lake Fire in the park. It's been burning for almost two months now. Wind, dry conditions and difficult terrain haven't helped. (Hasn't been in the news much until recently. I get press release updates from the RMNP PR person periodically, which is how I know about it.)
Looks like it's getting worse. Here's the latest release from the park:
Rocky Mountain National Park News Release1 p.m. update
Firefighters are holding the Fern Lake Fire within the boundaries of Rocky Mountain National Park. Fire managers are cautiously optimistic regarding management of the fire as winds are not as extreme as they were overnight. The priorities for are:
· Firefighter and public safety
· Incident stabilization
· Controlling the fire perimeter -- keeping the fire from spreading beyond the park boundaries so residents may be allowed to re-enter when it is safe for them to do so.
Multiple resources are on order, including a Type I Incident Management team, hot shot crews, additional engines, two additional type I helicopters, and all available local resources. Structure protection is being provided by many local fire departments. Managing agencies are the National Park Service, Larimer County Sheriff’s Department and the Town of Estes Park. The east side of Rocky Mountain National Park is closed, although Fall River Visitor Center remains open.
EVACUATION INFORMATION
· The Highway 66 corridor, including all adjacent streets, remains in evacuation.
· Residents of High Drive and adjacent streets have been notified that they are now on pre-evacuation notice. The residents in this area may return home, presenting identification to law enforcement at the High Drive road block. No others will be allowed in the area.
· Residents who were evacuated earlier today from the west side of Marys Lake Road and all adjacent streets are now allowed to return home and are on pre-evacuation notices. Access to the neighborhood is unrestricted.
· Pre-evacuation means that residents should be prepared to evacuate at any moment.
Evacuees should meet at Estes Park High School at 1600 Manford Ave. The Red Cross and Salvation Army are staffing this evacuation center. Information is provided to evacuees on site.
All public events at the Estes Park High School have been canceled for today, including the Oratory Performance.
Large animals may be taken to the Stanley Park Fairgrounds 1209 Manford Ave.

Im guessing Paul at St Marys Glacier
I'd say the same. The upper parking lot though.

that's it, it's one of GlacierPaul's parking lots, the smaller one above the trailhead. St. Mary's is always a beautiful hike, and it's great not to have to park on the crumbling shoulder anymore. The free porta potty, trash cans and dog poop bags Paul provides are great too, there was practically no trash and only one poop on the trail. We used all three today! It's awesome that he can make some money and turn that area around at the same time, it used to be a zoo there. :thumb:

Wow! How did I miss this?!?!? Thanks all!! It is still a zoo, but orderly now :)
Jim, the parking is pay, the toilets are 'open to the public' :)
Come up in the dead of winter, vastly different scenery, and I keep the lots(the smaller one for sure) plowed and open all year round too.
