Hello I just recently finished up my build, or rather got it to a drive-able point.

Never been wheeling, i just have a habbit of letting projects get carried away.

anyway heres pics of my build up hope to see you around :)

started out with an 85 toyota off craigslist.

Came with 38x15.5x15 tire, with 1.5" wheel spacers and longer shackles and a synthetic deck material bed that was attached with woodscrews to the frame. Other than that completely stock, gears, steering, engine, everything.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j285/oishisakana/build/start3_zps5ee9b9fd.jpg

when i bought it, it ran rather poorly. Got it home, found a lot of vacum leaks and it only had ~70psi in each cylinder. Pulled off head turns out when previous owner rebuilt, used pistons for and 85+ 22r when it was and 84 22r block and head.

rebuilt the top and bottom end of the motor with correct parts:

cab floor had some rot in all the usual places, cut it out and burnt in some new sheet metal

moved to the back, pulled the "bed" off found more rot and just all around mess.

Yowza - that's a lot of work done!

I get a kick out of the "Danger / Welding" sign!

So, it's running? Any tasks to wrap-up before hitting a trail or will you be toss'n about some trail run in the "planning" forum later today?

Yea just barley makes it out of the garage. It wont make it if you leave the hood up and try to back out into the drive way *whoops*

Quite a laundry list of things i want to do:
spare tire mount
incab cage
steering stabilizer or hydro assist
tire balance*balancing beadlocks is a pita*
also still breaking in the motor.

but would not mind hitting a trail some time soon :smokin:

Yeah I've been checking out there site on it for a month or 2 now. If I was working I'd jump right on it. Does it bend at a fairly good pace with the compressor running? Also is it easy to set the pipes up for multiple bends? Sorry for the million questions, you just have nice stuff lol

lateralj
January 30th, 2013, 03:54 PM
lol i actually don't have a shop compressor just in the truck, so all the bends were done by hand pumping :(*really not that bad*

Setting up for multiple bends is easy, just need to ensure you stay on the plane of bend, which a cheap level from harbor freight can do.

if you have any specific questions id reach out to rogueFab, they were great to work with, and happily answered many of my seemingly stupid questions.

plus for me it was a huge bonus that it was a weld it yourself kit, makes it more fun.

Re: ever...

So, a question: Are you totally new to trails? Have you ridden with others? I wondering, as it seems you have a wonderfully capable truck, that you modified, do you have any / what trail background do you have? It it one of those "this deal was too good to pass up (good base vehicle) and then I got the itch and spent some time on web forums learning"??

lateralj

Thanks all for the warm welcomes and kind words look forward to wheeling together.

ever lol!

You've come to the right place. China Wall will be a great first off-road experience. The guys here will spot you and make sure you try the lines you and your rig are comfortable with. You'll love it. Bypasses are an option, but I see you taking on the obstacles in that rig of yours! Either way is fine. Good food and company too!

I live about parker and yale.

On the truck, i was able to make quite a few front end adjustments and have eliminated all the death wobble :D now to try to figure out how to balance f'in beadlocks. I think i might have actually put to much airsoft bbs in the tires.

Oil pump replaced no longer leaking, ill try to snap some pics of the old seal, i dunno what happened by something chewed it up something serious. Also planning in my head how im gonna bend the in cab cage and mount the spare :)

0.02 re airsoft BB's - BTDT couldn't wait to pull them out and go static balance.

In both my auto (honda) tires and BFG 35" tires I tried DynaBeads (have'm for sale if anyone's interested), airsoft BB's, RV antifreeze.

While the dynabeads worked OK in the car (even though DynaBeads stated to not use them in automotive / small tires they just weren't as good as static lead weights. Rolling along on I-25 it was about a 10 second cycle - smooth as glass for 10 seconds then the vibration would increase, then decrease (cycle in/out) over 10 seconds. It got old.

In the Jeep, they would not balance no matter how much or little I had. If too much, I could not travel over 70MPH as it would go so far out of balance it was like the rear axle was about to depart the vehicle.

I so wanted dynamic balance to work, as it's a great concept, but I tried and it just didn't work out.
