Had a great mini roadtrip with my wife and daughters today. We drove up to Estes Park and drove around the countryside for a bit. Then we stopped for lunch and drove up to the Stanley Hotel. We thought about taking the hotel tour, but the sign said no kids under 5, so that was off the agenda. We settled for snapping a few pictures, and headed for downtown.
We walked around the downtown area and browsed some of the tourist shops and candy stores. We saw an enormous dog being walked around- the woman who owned it said that it is the largest living Malamute, but my youngest daughter informed me that it was actually a "puppy horse." :lmao:
We decided to head over to the trout farm pond so the kids could try some ice fishing. They caught a 14" rainbow then we got back on the road. It was my first time going to one of these private ponds. they're not really all that exciting for adults, but they were great for a 2 and 4 year old.
On our way back home we decided to drive throug the Lefthand Canyon area.

There were tons of bikes on the road, so the progress was slow on the curves. We didn't actually get onto the trail, we just turned around at the "Old Carnage Canyon" trailhead and drove back out.
All in all it was a good trip and a good drive, aside from all of the Subaru drivers trying to run into the back of me. I guess I just don't understand why these people buy these cars that let them get out into the mountains, and then try to drive so fast through them that they can't even enjoy the scenery. The bright side of this is that the melting snow left some fun little mud patches in the slow vehicle turnoffs!
