Hello,
This is completely irrelevant to vehicles...We recently remodeled our kitchen and need something made to edge the counter top. We're thinking an "L" bracket welded together. Ideally stainless. Anyone capable of working with stainless?
Thanks,
Andrew

hmm, pictures or anything? Are you just looking for a stainless 90 bracket, or something more than that (i cant picture your intentions here). If it can be bent instead of welded I could probably do it for you, but I dont really do much with stainless. If something in steel will work I can do it for you.

As of now, I don't have a picture. I'll draw up a sketch this evening and upload it with dimensions and so on. All we need is a 90, ideally it would be bent, but there's a few corners it has to go around as well. Our kitchen is a rough "U" shape.

So is this for lining the counter top edges that would over hang the drawers and such? You can buy Angle iron in stainless in many dimensions readily available.

Where? We haven't been able to find anything anywhere...We also need the top edge a different dimension than the drop down portion

Have you checked local metal suppliers like Dencol? I know of one over in wheatridge/golden area that specializes in stainless, but i cant think of its name for the life of me at the moment. Ill try to get over there, and get there name for you. Most Metal Supplies will carry it though, and if not can order it. When i was still doing brewery work, we used it fairly often, but if i recall it was typically in sizes such as 2*3 or 2.5*2.5 but i do know it can be ordered in a orange of sizes.

in a orange of sizes.
I dont think thats really the shape he is looking for. And orange sized peice would just look funny on the edge of a counter.

You can get an entire kitchen out of stainless now (including the cabinets). They look pretty sweet in the right application

Funny you say that, because I was just looking at them online last weekend. We need new counter tops if we ever want to sell this house. (Hopefully this spring). I had never heard of stainless in a domestic kitchen. Only in restaurants and such. They would be very cool!

Being ever so concious of styles as I am it should be noted that stainless appliances are now out of fashion. Stainless elsewhere is still cool. ;)

It's all about the brushed nickle now lol. Originally we wanted to paint it but that seems like an excessive amount of work and up keep...

We're striking out...no one seems to sell stainless unless you want wholesale....Anyone have any suggestions? Or can anyone here weld and fabricate with aluminum? And then, does anyone know where plate aluminum can be found in roughly 10' strips?

Have you asked steel suppliers? I can't believe they don't have a list of aluminum sources.

The general consensus seems to be they don't know anyone or they won't sell retail :(

CRAP! We just spent $400 on a new stainless & black microwave.:frown: Oh well. We'll let the new owners worry about that!
Maybe we'll just call it "retro". Yeah... that'll work!

And we're going stainless with our new kitchen. We set trends, Jackie, we don't follow them. :thumb:

I thought an avatar was supposed to accurately describe yourself....Nothing describes us more than that one picture lol

If you are still having issues, it does help to actually got to a place and ask if you can pick around in their remnants pile or even go to a scrap yard and do so there.
For welding Stainless, there is nothing special about it beyond needing to buy different wire for the welder. I've heard mixed reviews on what gas to use too, but I think that is down to what kind of stainless you are trying to weld too.
One idea is to maybe go buy a used restaurant prep table and just cut the edges off and recycle the rest. Craigslist has them, and there are a couple used Restaurant equipment places around town too.
It seems crazy to me that NO ONE would be willing to sell you 10 feet of stainless angle iron or similar. I do remember Altitude steel having a rack of Stainless in their stuff, so you might try there too.

I've found it absolutely ridiculous as well. I call Altitude at one point and was told they didn't carry stainless. I like the restaurant cart idea though, I'll have to see if I can find a piece long enough

So I know that ss is a pain in the ass but you should call my buddy John. He specializes in ornamental iron and custom projects. He can talk to you about the ss or suggest other options
