wow. What a bunch of assholes. If you cant trust a place that "also sells F150 fan belts" then who can you trust? Apparently only "rover only" places.
I thought I smelled brakes burning when you pulled in though!!

That is why I hate bigger sites, crap like this happens on my Isuzu site as well, that is why when problems arise I normally just post my questions here. I get good answers and no jackasses ruining it for everyone else.
I like how it is your fault that they sent you faulty parts.

The damage is done, they are no longer wearing into the rotors, so I will be there. I remember you saying that Steve, I chalked it up to the tight pads wearing in.

That was an entertaining post if anything. I did have to laugh at this though.... Not towards you at all I just thought the picture was funny.

Sorry, but my first thought was exactly the same at the first post over there. Look at it this way, if this work was done at a shop, it would be the shop's fault for letting it go that way. Now that you are the shop, it's the suppliers fault? I don't buy it. Ultimately, it's the installers responsibility to make sure that parts fit correctly, regardless of the supplier or quality of the parts.
As for RA's customer service, are they supposed to change their return policy because of damage that's not their fault? A smaller company might, but don't fault some phone monkey for following their corporate rules.

Expedition Portal is a douche-fest, I'm not surprised. some guys are really brave online... regardless of what they think there are better ways to say it. I liked that site when I first found it because there is a decent amount of info and some great build threads (IntrepidXJ!!), but its too full of "web-experts" for me. I don't think that anyone who knows you would run their mouth like that to you in person, and at the end of the day VW pays you for your opinion / work; those guys can barely give it away. f-em.

It was never about me. It was about helping others keep away from shoddy cheap parts they are selling. I reiterate I am out of pocket. Not rock auto. Because it is in my nature to help people I am the idiot? Just goes to prove I should just shut up and only help myself. Oh well. Just like all the other forums, I will read only even if I do know a way to help. Their loss.

Wow that is crazy. Despite what they say, You know those other guys would not have taken responsibility if they had a similar situation.

I fully accept responsibility. I am paying out of pocket to buy another set of brand new calipers. I never said its completely their fault, just that their parts are defective and they should have better service in place for these situations. Especially if it was true that they "never" have issues with these calipers. In a week none of this will matter, except I will no longer do business with rock auto and EP lost another member. I love to contribute where I can, pity it is the few that ruin it for the many. This is also the reason I quit Landroverforums.

Makes me worry about the fomoco rebuilt calipers I just purchased from them for my ranger...I've noticed that when it comes down to it, it's not much cheaper than going to the advance auto parts by my house, but they do give me better than normal pricing for being a 15yr customer. It's been the same manger and main 2 sales people since it opened, and were all on good terms.
Sucks to hear about your calipers brad. Thanks for the insight on RA.com

FWIW, I tend to buy my parts that are large and heavy like this locally, unless I just can't find them locally- mainly for that return shipping hassle. If you were to have purchased these defective calipers at Autozone/Advance/Pep Boys/Oreily.... it would have potentially resulted in the same outcome of damaging the rotors, but at least the turn around for getting replacements or a refund is quicker.
I replaced the starter in my Explorer here recently. Took the old one out and ran to Advance to get a new one. I quickly glanced at the new one in the store and everything appeared to be the same. But when I got it home, the shape of the new one prohibited it from fitting between the oil pan and the front diff. Took it back and compared the new one to my core and figured out the difference. We were then able to pull another off the shelve (a different brand) and compare it to the core and determined this other one was correct. And both of these new starters shared the same part number in their system. Going through this via the internet and return shipping..... hell no.
And this is another reason as to why having a spare car is great. This whole starter thing was actually spread out over 3 or 4 days because I have the luxury of not needing to drive it everyday. In fact, my Explorer sits in the garage 6 days a week most weeks.
I use Rock Auto to buy things like oil filters and hood lift struts.
But EBC Greenstuffs- I like those pads. I've had a few sets on different vehicles and have really liked them. The only problem I had was with my first set- I used them on my track car and overheated them and they chunked apart. I didn't really realize it until I was at an autocross in the rain a month or so later. The chunks in the pads would allow the pads to hydroplane on the rotor. Greens aren't really meant for high heat track abuse so that was my fault. After that, I went to normal street pads for street and autox and a race compound for track events.

Good to know Tom!
I was figuring how bad can you screw up a factory caliper when rebuilding? I understand a internal seal failure due to poor workmanship on the rebuild, but a factory casting screwed up? Hard to believe.

semms then we found one of the few good lanrover guys to be in our group lol.....they all are dumb in my book since it it the businesses responsibility to make sure their parts fit what they say ...there are soo many companies today it makes a differance........and what saddends me was the burb guy from cali on that sight doing that to you lol.....and i heard from my cousin to not use rock auto either since his truck had parts and they wore out very very fast........and before i go ranting in going to just post since those other guys really irked me for some reason

I don't like any forum that gets all gnarly with people. I love that the folks here post up good advise even when you ask a stupid question or make a mistake. It's all a learning curve, and there is nothing to be learned from being rude or being treated rudely.

Best revenge for people like that is living a good life, as taught to me by Paul. That and Karma, I only hope I am there to see it happen. ;)

Not to bash on anybody, but your experience is why I am reluctant to purchase anything over the internet.
That said, I'm looking to spend money at Serious Offroad because he pays taxes here in Colorado, and he puts a premium on customer service.
