I'm actually headed out to UT on Sat. and going to go explore the southern part up to Moab. I'll be sure to post up a few pics when I get back.

I also have the CO map.

Just estimating on how long it would take to do the entire route- I'm guessing close to 10 days. And that depends on how much stopping you do to actually enjoy it. And traffic.

So I've since been putting together smaller overland style trips that can fit into a weekend. I have every other Friday off, so a 3 day weekend. I'm thinking my first trip will be something along the lines of The Gold Belt Byway, Medano Pass, the Bonanza Off Highway Vehicle Tour and then home.

I did a three day trip few years ago. Day 1 started with Medano, Day 3 ended with Taylor Pass.

10 days on the COBDR would be taking it at a leisurely pace for sure. I'd say a 5-6 day's at a moderate pace. If you follow their route the whole way they're not going to be going over anything too rough, those big 1200GS bikes would have a real hard time on the rocky stuff.

Don't forget about the full day to the start (from Denver) and nearly a full day back from the finish. I've been told by several people that Telluride to Lake City is a full day. And depending on when, I've been told traffic on that route can be an issue.

I was going through their route and looking for other options to take. I'd love to do the route, but there is plenty of shorter routes to get me started.

Oh, yeah I was talking on trail time. That's what counts right? :D

I like a lot of their route, but there are a few modifications I would make. Instead of going over Cottonwood pass down into BV I'd take Italian Creek over to Pearl Pass and then over Independence Pass. Much more scenic.
