It won't fit. GM alternators are huge compared to the one in your jeep.

No I, on the other hand, can use it on my XJ. :)

You can make anything fit. Do some research and see if anyone else has done this swap. I would guarantee someone has.

The stock alternator on Cherokees with A/C and power windows and locks can push a lot of power. I ran my sound system for years with no issues, not even dimming of the headlights. I had a high power Pioneer premier deck(200 watts), 1,000 watt amp and a 350 watt amp. Powered amps through a 1 farad capacitor to help with pulsing. With the low power drain from newer LED lighting you likely would be fine with upgraded stock alternator. IIRC I used the 136 amp alternator from a 97 Grand Cherokee 5.2L with no grinding(over 40 amp increase). The mean green alternator is pricy but produces lots of power even at a low rpm. Quadratec has a few options.

If you are willing to give up air conditioning, you can mount an alternator up high and have room for a bigger case. There is not much room in the lower mounting location.
