I finally got one and used it last Saturday on the trail but my computer doesn't recognize the format of it's files. Anyone know what type file format they are or how I can download them to my computer?

Thanks!

The GoPro2 video format is MP4. I can just copy them to my Windows 7 computer and they just play. If you are running XP, Vista, or other, you will need something like VLC Media Player. Go to the Go Pro website for the videocrunching program. I have not used it that much. I normally keep all of the video. Since I work at a drive storage place, sizes of the files are not really important to me.

I'll second the vote for the VLC Media Player

I use GoPro cineform to make timelapses into MP4s http://gopro.com/software-app/cineform-studio?gclid=CMPz7oa_qLcCFUJlMgodXFgAmg

otherwise I use Sony Movie Studio Platinum Suite, it recognizes almost any format and can use them all together to make one video too.

Youre going to LOVE the gopro!!!

Thanks guys once I get home I will get them downloaded and give it another shot, didn't want to get too discouraged yet about how they set things up and the cost for what you get.

I know what you mean, I was a little PO'd to find out that you can't open the box and use it, you have to buy a memory card right away. They don't even include a cheap one to get you going. No software either, you can get the very limited free one or buy something decent. I bought Sony. Then I found out the battery dies quickly, you can spnd more for the backpack or extra batteries- I bought a Wasabi 2-pack with a charger for about $20.00 off ebay. Then you need mounts, lots of mounts...

With a GoPro, it is hard to "keep it simple". But, once you DO have all the stuff, it is a great video recording device. I used mine for four wheeling and motorcycle racing, I mean riding. It is neat to try different positions to get the different views.
