A few months back there was a thread of a rolled rig near Kaleb's area. There was talk of waiting until snow melted to pull it out. I can't find the thread - anyone know status of either the thread or the truck?

I don't think that was the one I have in mind - but then I could be wildly wrong.

The one I was thinking of was the truck that rolled a time or two down the a slope and the owner put it up on Craigslist for someone to buy it and for them to remove it. There was talk of hauling it out and leaving it in town for police to take it off the road. It was just before the seasons snows and snow came before folks could haul it out.

Thanks Dave, your link lead me to it. This is the truck in question...

We had a thread here too - but I can't find the thread (perhaps it was lost in the last forum restore).

My second run of the season, I went up LHC to explore by myself and found this gem.

This was AFTER I decided the trail seemed too narrow and started walking the rest of the way! I was really glad I did.

No chance you took a photo of the VIN ? It might be interesting to see if it's listed as stolen. Pull the motor and tranny and haul the three major pieces out individually. Or slap a set of tires on it (I have a set that might fit) and pull it out and sell it as junk (if legal to do so).

I took the dirt bike up there this morning before work to check on it, we've got plans to go get it on sunday.

Wheels & tires are still on it... it's ready for a yank. Could always use some extra hands, but I think we'll consolidate into 4 or 5 trucks max as that trail can be a mess to turn around on, then go run SC afterwards.

holy crap does red elephant SUCK on a bike in the mud... it doesn't seem nearly as steep in a jeep!!!

I have pix-n-vids but it'll be several days before they get processed. It's midnight as I type this and I JUST got in. Max and I discussed visiting Lefthand Canyon to get the VIN of the other vehicle. It was 7:15PM at his place in Boulder and darkness was fast approaching. The coin came up heads so we went. In all, a productive and good evening. From lefthand canyon I ended up with 1) blown parking light fuse, 2) blown (overheated) air compressor hose, 3) trashed R.F. shock (no clue how that happened).

I'm tired and need to get sleep before doing the runs tomorrow / today. g'night.

In all, the group of folks up to clear the junk was a great group. There were several points where we could do something one way or another way. There was productive compromise and the job got done - smoothly with level heads. Scenic area to be sitting looking across the valley to the south.

Being the tiller for the vehicle was interesting. Both right tires were flat and off the rim. There were point I'd be turning left but was being tugged right around a right curve - or the back end would be tugged sideways from Kaleb & Max (the brakes). It was a productive trip down the mountain as we filled the bed with other trail garbage - one fitting pile at the roadside.

oh yeah, we also forgot to mention that the locator pin came off the leaf spring in one of those tugs, so that last 3/4 of the way down the driveshaft was hanging from a strap and the rear axle was painting about 15 degrees to the right, which was helpful on the left turns... but not so much on the rights!

To be fair, it was already dove tailed and dove nosed before the dude rolled it. When the sleazeball posted it up for sale on Craigslist and cross linked the post to CO4x4, he included "before" pictures and some other guys had seen it on the trail too. Definitely MORE of a dovetail now then when it started too.

Just wanted to share, since it was by NO means "me" that did the work on this, I just bounced some emails & drove up a trail with a winch & not enough gas... :D

Mr. Timberlake – Just want to tell you how much we (district employees, citizens, residents, etc.) appreciate your selfless assistance in helping us to do what’s right for the National Forests! Your actions this past weekend took care of a problem that could have taken us months to do without your help. This type of volunteerism and interest in the National Forests are what give the rest of us a smile and hope as we face the daily challenges of managing the public’s land.
Thanks again,

I've had my issues with the forest circus over the years, but I need reminding that the "USFS" on the large scale, isn't the same as the people who you deal with on the local scale.

Nice to see a thank you, so I thought I'd share.

Paul, they were stuck above us. They KNEW that this was happening, but chose to camp up on top, with only one way down, and to get their lazy asses up late. In their defense though, they couldn't really go anywhere else. N empire was snowed in.

The tool that talked to me said the vet guy was going to come down, and after giving him some SH**, I figured the vet would come down, and we'd work it out... but then they took off instead. They offered ZERO help, which would have changed our attitudes... they just were too stupid to avoid a situation that they knew about in advance, so I had approximately ZERO empathy for them.

Did you get your diff fixed Jim or were you in 2 wheel?

I'm going to try and hold off and get it fixed over the winter. Most of my wheeling is either 2-hi or 4-lo and front hubs unlocked. When I need the extra traction over something I click in the front hubs for the 20' and then un-click'm. Having the locking rear diff makes it so I don't need the fronts much at all.

The last Miller Rock trip I was in rear only. I could have used front wheel for one U-turn on a hill (but didn't). I needed the rear diff locked in when going up the difficult route to miller rock from the intersection. So far, front wheel drive hasn't been needed (though the rear locker is being used more).
