Jeep door light defeat switch

Wired up a switch for the door light defeat. I don't like having to pull the fuse and then keep track of the fuse and then remember to put the fuse back so I don't drain my battery leaving my headlights on. :) I always need to grab some needle nose pliers to pull it because I can't get a good grip.

Install time: 5 minutes.

Plugs right into the fuse panel in place of the fuse (new fuse is inline).

Switch is attached so that i can flip it without removing the glove box.

Is that a purchased kit? I did something simiar but cut/spliced the wires behind the fuse panel and extended them to a switch over on the driver's side of the door/dash area (next to the speaker surround). Definitely nice having a switch instead of pulling the fuse!

Very nice Alex!!! I am glad the new Jeep has the switch for the courtesy lights, I have the fuse pulled in the others.

I looked and there seemed to be two popular ways to do this: splice into the ground in the back of the fuse panel or use spade connectors into the fuse slot. I looked into both and then found this kit with spade connectors for $15 and thought the most I would save buying the parts from radio shack was $5 so I went with the kit. :)

If I take off my doors, the car will ding and let me know that I have the door open and will leave the interior lights on for the first 5 or so minutes of the trip. You can turn this off by pulling a fuse behind the glove box. This is a switch instead of pulling a fuse. It is definitely a convenience upgrade. :-)

Oh...I gotcha. Sounds like something they should fix since doors are removable by design from what I understand of the Wranglers. Someone needs to smack an engineer.

Well done Alex!! I use my leatherman to pull the fuse then put it in the glove box where it always manages to mysteriously disappear. I've lost two so far, I think I'll follow your lead. :thumb:

Nevermind you ending up with a lap/floor full of all of the junk that's in the glove box... That's what pushed me over the limit and led to wiring a switch!
